Cibona want a much better offensive play but the key to winning will still be in the defense

After the loss against the French Le Mans in the first round, the team of Cibona are facing a difficult away match in the second round at Czech Nymburk. The Zagreb team lost in ABA League on weekend as well, as Buducnost from Podgorica were better than them.

In the team of Cibona the situation is not the best. There are a lot of talks about the dissatisfaction of some individuals and the start of the season is not the best either. Offensively Cibona look quite bad and all the matches they won were won because of the defense.

 - Looking at our last two matches against Le Mans and Buducnost I think the third quarter was crucial as we were quite bad in it. While against Le Mans we managed to come back, we didn't make it in Podgorica. In the defense we did outrageous mistakes for this level. We have a poor shot and then we simply need to play good defense - said Neven Spahija, the coach of Cibona, after the loss against Buducnost.

There are some positive things ahead of the away match in Czech Republic and the first is definitely Matt Jenning who gave a big contribution in the offense in the last two matches and is imposing as the key figure in the offense. The second thing are Dario Saric and Andria Zizic under the hoops who are performing well. Saric was brilliant against Buducnost with 21 points and played his best match with Cibona, while Zizic is usually calm and gives a great contribution in both directions. A lot more is expected from Blassingam and Strawberry who are playing far below their level.

 - It is a team who are, looking at the roster in general, more experienced than us. But we don't have a choice. We are going for the win in each match because that is the obligation of Cibona. I know four of their players personally and before the match we will additionally prepare and try to practice some things for them - announced Spahija and the power forward of Cibona Marko Jagodic-Kuridza added:

 - We are in for a tough match but we are going there to play as best as we can and seek a win which would mean a lot to us.

Cibona need to play a match on high level regarding offense, probably the best of the season if they want to score important points which would keep them in the fight for the second round of Eurocup.

 - We have the offensive talent and I believe our shot will start to function. Everything starts with the defense which we simply need to play more than seven minutes because that is not enough time. The younger players will still get their chances which won't be an excuse for me but a need - concluded Spahija.

Nymburk started the competition in the Eurocup with a loss in Belgium last week and today they will try to score their first win. During the weekend they had their first loss in VTB league in an away match at Ukrainian Donetsk and the best thing from that match is definitely the return of Simmons who didn't play his best after the injury but with eight points he was one of the more prominent Nymburk's players.

Simmons' contribution in today's match should be even bigger. Nymburk want to be successful in Eurocup and two starting losses would be a blow to their ambitions. Cibona are a good team but they are definitely not invincible, especially not at home. Besides, the Croatian team are in a quite negative streak concerning European competitions.

 - Currently they are having problems on international field but they are still a team from Croatia, which is a great basketball country - Kemzura respects his opponent for today.

Nymburk played two matches against Cibona in the past when they were competing in Adriatic League two seasons ago. Nymburk was lead by Chester Simmons in winning both of the matches and the most is expected from him tomorrow as well.

 - I just want to win. I know my role in the team is to score points, they will matter only if they help the team to win. Otherwise it is not important how many points I score. We urgently need a win. We lost against Oostende in the Eurocup and Donetsk in VTB league. Two consecutive losses are enough, we don't need a third one. We need to do everything in our power to win the match - stated Simmons.

Apart from Simmons, out of the current Nymburk's squad only Benda was part of the team two seasons ago. However, the center will still be only a spectator as he didn't manage to recover from his injury.

 - My knee is not allowing me to play but I will root on the bench for our third win - said Benda and Simmons thinks how those wins have no significance:

 - Cibona now have a different team with a different coach, just like us. It will not be the same.

Both Nymburk and Cibona are teams who prefer fast transition and I believe we should be watching a more efficient game. The Croatian champion has a bad European competition streak but they now have a chance to threaten Nymburk. The Czech team often concedes more than 80 points in international competitions. In the four games outside the national championship, they always conceded over that margin (Banvit 87, Kalev 78, Oostende 90, Azovmash 80). Even though they didn't play a single game on the home court, that doesn't have a significant effect on their play. Nymburk insist on fast play action. The margin is pretty low and I believe that Cibona will go over it without bigger problems.
