The Slovenian team is doing much better in the Eurocup than in the ABA league. They have the second place in this competition with a 4-2 ratio and a win here would give them a chance to get to round 2. The French ASVEl are standing in their way, a team they could have beaten in the first head-to-head game that was decided in the last quarter

Union Olimpija have had a very tough week behind them in which they first went into over-time in Varese where they won their Eurocup game, then they went into over-time against Cedevita at home in the ABA league, but they eventually lost that one. The Slovenian team has picked up its form from the start of the season, which is reflected in the fact that they won four times in the past five games and the fact that they won two Eurocup games in over-time speaks volumes about their mental strength.

The Lithuanian Deividas Gailius is one of the best in their ranks and has been their most efficient player recently He scored 31 points against Varese, 21 against Budućnost and Paris and 14 points in a low-scoring game against Cedevita. Apart from him, center Omić has also been their notable player (15 against Varese and Budućnost, 17 against Paris), who significantly improved his form from the start of the season when he was unrecognizable.

- ASVEL are an opponent that we have a debt to settle with and I hope we will be able to settle it all. I don't need to talk how important this game is, we've analysed their game very well and we know how they will go out on the court. They fluctuate a lot from great games like the one against Valencia to dips in form against Ulm, and we have to punish that - said the Slovenian coach Aleš Pipan and concluded:

- It is crucial to stop their counter-attacks because they get the most points from transition. If we force them to go five-on-five, we will win much more easily.

ASVEL's situation is not as good as Olimpija's, they are fourth-placed and have a point less. However, in case they win here, they would get a huge advantage as they would have two wins in head-to-heads and would match the Slovenian team's score. Coach Pierre Vincent is aware that this might the the crucial European game this fall and that in case of a defeat his team would not have much margin for error.

Vincent's players are going into this game with two defeats in a row. After losing against Ulm in the Eurocup last week, they were defeated in an away game against Nancy in the league. As one would expect, it was a tough game that was literally decided with the last throw of the ball. The home team had a bit more luck as Morlende missed the last free throw that would have taken the game into over-time.

- We had too many errors from the start. This was a re-run of the game against Ulm, we allowed the opponent to gain confidence. After that, we were good in defense apart from a few key moments in which we gave Nichols far too much space - said Vincent and emphasized the lack of confidence in offense.

- In offense, it was a completely different story. We were patient in the second half, we wanted to get good shooting positions but we didn't take them. During the entire season, we have made too many poor decisions, we try to get closer to the rim but the refs don't call the foul...I don't blame the players for missing the baskets, I blame them for not taking the shots.

ASVEL have improved their defense, but have gone under 70 points in their last 3 games. Another defensive team is coming to visit. The first game in France ended at 120 points and considering the importance of today's game, I wouldn't be surprised by this turn of events today.

A lot has been said in the preview. We have a game between two defensively oriented teams, and a game that might decide who goes through. This is in itself a solid reason to go for a total under, and when we take into consideration that their first head-to-head ended with 120 points then we have another good argument. Olimpija have improved their offensive game lately, but they still have only two games in which they scored over 71 points in regular time: against fast Ulm and in Podgoorica when they scored 26 points in the last quarter, almost ten in the last minute. On the other hand, the only opponent that scored more than 65 in regular time was Cibona while Cedevita got 59-59 last weekend after 40 minutes, and Paris got 63-63. And this Paris is more offensively oriented than ASVEL.After all, the fact that they limited Valencia to only 64 points says enough On the other hand, ASVEL had an away game against Nancy in a similar game like today and it ended 60-59. Last week they played a 138-point game against the super-fast Ulm. All of this points to another low-scoring game. I expect both teams to go below team margin which makes the total under the best option.
