The Chargers have no right for a mistake

The San Diego team are in a tough situation, and they are facing what is probably the toughest oppoenent possible today, but coach McCoy believes they can surprise the Broncos

As expected, the Denver Broncos will be in the play off once again. They secured their position last Sunday by destroying the Titans home 55-28. They are currently at the top of the AFC West division and on the right path of becoming the number one seed, which would make reaching the coveted Super Bowl significantly easier.

- I suppose we do have a certain security now, but our job is not done yet. Winning the division is priority, and winning the conference our second goal. We need to make sure we are a better team each week. Great expectatins lie ahead, but we have to take it ne week at a time and work hard - wide receiver Eric Decker pointed out. He caught 71 pass for 1088 yards and eight touchdowns so far.

The Broncos advanced the most yards this season last week, bad weather in spite (551), and since they advanced 1,086 yards in the last two games, there's no way that rumors about their offense 'slowing down' are true. Peyton Manning passed for 800 yards, and 9 touchdowns, with only two intersections in the last two weeks. Besides, he managed to set the new team record when he completed 39 passes against the Titans. The quarter back has 68,1% of successful passes for 4,522 yards and 45 touch downs this season. His passes were intercepted only 9 times. He is only five more touch downs short of reaching Tom Brady's record from 2007.

He won't be able to count on the slot receiver Wes Welker tonight, which could turn out to be a problem. On the other hand, the stats clearly show that the Broncs have a lot to offer in offense this season. They are the first team in history to have four players who scored at least 10 touch downs, and they will easily improve that record since Decker is only two touch downs short of it.

- We've been talking about how dynamic our offense is all year long. We have the guys who didn't get a lot of opportunities at the beginning of the season, but they can now show everyone what they can do - tight end Thomas, who caught 50 passes for 625 yards and 11 touch downs, said.

The Denver team are leading in the league in yards advanced (465,6), and points scored (39,6). Their dominance becomes clear if we know that the Bears, who are in the second position, are reording 11,3 less. Their defense is, however, not as impressive, but that's not even necessary with this kind of offense. 

The San Diego Chargers are back in the battle for the play off having won the home game against the Giants last Sunday. The final score was 37-14 making that their most convincing win since last year's September, and boosting their confidence for this game.

- This was one of the best all-around games. We may not have advanced for the X yards, but the way we won is promising - coach MyCoy said. His team left the two last opponents at 31 point combined.

The Charger's record is 6-7 currently and they would probably have to win the three remaining games to reach the play off, but they depend on the other games as well.

- I can't wait for the game to start. These kind f opportunities are what you want as an athlete in NFL. We now depend on others and that's our fault, but the only thing we are focusing on is Denver. We have to try to control what we can do - linebacker Johnson said.

Philip Rivers is one of the few quarter back in the league who's not afraid to try and keep up with Manning. He completed 70,3% of passes for 3882 yards and 26 touch downs with nine interceptions. Their offense is advancing 400,5 yards under his command, but they are recording only 24,3 points, which is far from the top of the league.

The Chargers will have to record at least around 30 points tonight, it's very hard to imagine their defense stopping the Broncos' offense. The Broncos beat them in the last four head to head games, one game this season included (28-20).

- We made a lot of mistakes the last time we played them. A lot of things happened in crucial moments. We have to lear from our mistakes, and that applies t every game. No doubt, the players know we can win - coach McCoy said.

The situation is clear. The Chargers have to win the remaining three games if they want to have any chance of reaching the play-offs and since they're playing the team that is the top of the league in rushed yards (465,6) and goals scored (39,6) I don't have any doubt they will rush from the start. The Broncos and their deadly scoring abilities force their opposition to go full throttle and try to keep up with them and the Chargers are the only team capable of doing that. The arrival of Mike McCoy, the former offensive coordinator for the Broncos has rejuvenated Philip Rivers who is having one of the best seasons in his career, but and definitely has enough weaponry to harm the not-so-secure defense of the home team. The Broncos have conceded at least 28 points in their last 3 games (Patriots- 34 ,Chiefs- 28,Titans-28) and I think the away team are at least slightly better than the Chiefs and the Titans.
