Sacramento - L.A. Lakers (100:106)

The Kings have a run of five defeats

  • Published:

Considering the situation with injuries in the Lakers' camp, it seems that the home team have a good chance to end their poor run

Whatever the Sacramento Kings do they get defeated. They currently have a run of five, 3 of which came with a combined 5-points difference, one in over-time. Even though  DeMarcus Cousins missed the game against the Thunder due to minor ankle injury, his team almost achieved a sensational win but they weren't too lucky in the final moments of the game and they lost by 97-95. Michael Malone's team had the 31-19 lead after first 12 minutes, but the guests from the OKC turned the game to their advantage in the second period and had a 78-65 lead by the end of third. Then Isaiah Thomas steps onto the stage and scores 21 points in 12 minutes but he failed to put the icing on the cake as he missed the shot in the final moments of the game.

- We played without DeMarcus and against a team that had a 12-3 ratio and are looking like the favorites to reach the finals, but we were right behind them and gave them a chance to win. At some point we will stop losing these narrow games - commented coach Malone whose team scored only 39,3 % field goals.

Thomas ended the game with 24 points (9/18) and almost singlehandedly turned the game around. The Kings won the last period by 30-19, after scoring only 34 points in the previous 2 periods.
- I was passive in the first half and I wasn't too useful in offense. When I got in the game by the end of third period I wanted to do something. I was aggressive and my teammates kept  feeding me balls - said the Kings' petite point-guard who's at the top of the league with 8,6 points in the last quarter.

After being given several days to heal his ankle injury,  DeMarcus Cousins should be in the first 5 tonight which is definitely a huge plus for the Kings who were limited to only 26 points from the paint on Tuesday. He is the first shooter (21,7) and rebounder (10,1) of his team that is hosting the Los Angeles Lakers whose fans can't wait for Kobe Bryant to return after he had his third successful training session, but will probably not play in Sacramento but will focus on the Sunday game against the Raptors.

- I have to find the right rhythm in my legs. I have to be able to stop, get up and shoot without any problem. If I am able to do that constantly, only then will I feel comfortable - said the Lakers' star whose team won 5 out of last 7 games without his aid.

Even though they haven't played since Sunday when they were defeated in their Staples Center by the Blazers (114-108), the Hollywood boys will be pretty weakened tonight. Jordan Farmar got injured and will be out for at least a month, and since Steve Nash is still fighting his chronic back pain, their only point-guard is Steve Blake. To make things worse, Pau Gasol suffered a minor ankle injury but is expected to play tonight and redeem himself for his game against the Blazers when he was limited to 6 points and 3/15 field goal.

- We have lost several guys but there's nothing we can do about it. The boys we have at our disposal will give every opponent a hard time - said Xavier Henry.

Henry (21) and Gasol (20) lead their team to a 100-86 win against the Kings some ten days ago, and the Lakers have won the last three head-to-heads, but considering the situation in the away camp, it seems this run might come to an end.

The Kings are far from a reliable team but I believe they can take advantage of the problems in the home team's dressing room as they will be without Kobe Bryant and Steve Nash once again and will probably not be able to count on Chris Kaman. Jordan Farmar was also injured in their defeat against the Blazers and this leaves them with only one playmaker - Steve Blake, who used his left hand in the shooting practice due to problems with his elbow. In addition, Paul Gasol is struggling with his ankle and Jordan Hill is not at his 100 % and I consider this a too big handicap for them to beat the Kings who simply have to get a breakthrough. They've lost five games in a row, 3 of them by five points and they lost one game in over-time. Their only other defeat was inflicted by none other than the Lakers (100-86) but in a much better condition. The Kings have wasted a lot of energy against the Clippers (103-102) and they will need it tonight as they rely on 10 players and high pressure that causes problems to their opponents. The bet is available with most bookmakers.
