Borussia Dortmund (A) - Osnabruck (1:2)

Borussia's coach sees today's game as a bonus

  • Published:

Ever since they started competing in the third division, Dortmund's second team has never had so many points in the first part of the season. For instance, Borussia had 8 points less at this time last season

After getting two 1-1 draws, the young team from Dortmund beat Elvesburg away  by 5-0. Almost nothing happened in the first 20 minutes and then the home center-forward Itou scored an own-goal after a corner for 1-0. The goal that came from nothing motivated the young Borussia's team that started playing better from that point on and scored two more goals through young Harder.

In the second half, Ducksch scored his eighth goal from 13 goals in the league and this puts him on the third spot of the list of scorers, while their defensive midfielder Treude puts the icing on the cake to make it 5-0. This was Dortmund's first game this season in which they kept a clean sheet. Coach Wagner said after the game:

- Today, we've played one of the best games this season. We've accepted the fight from the first minute and this was the foundation for success.

These 3 points have rounded up Borussia's total tally to 25 which put them on the 11th spot on the table. Ever since they started competing in the third league, they have never got so many points in the first part of the season (they had 17 points after the first part of last season) so their coach calls the game today a "bonus".

The crucial figure for Borussia's youth team is their captain, their 31-year-old midfielder Solga who pulls all the strings. Apart from him, their keeper Alomerović and forward Ducksch are very important players and the latter is getting close to his spot in Borussia's first team.

Wagner cannot count on his 18-year-old center-back Sarr that was transferred into their first team and has already played 90 minutes for it on Wednesday in the Champions League game against Marseille. Apart from Sarr, Ducksch and center-back Günter will probably be moved to first team, too. Bonmann, Thiele, Serwy and Derstroff have been injured for some time.

Osnabrück beat Regensburg last Saturday at home by a minimal 1-0 result. The only goal of the game was scored by Testroet who got his sixth goal in 11 games this season. The win came deservedly although after huge struggle as Regensburg had their chances too, especially in the first half. The away team played their final 15 minutes with 10 men as center-back Windmüller made a foul as the last defender and had to leave the pitch early. After the game, Osnabrück's captain Dercho said:

- We've started the game very well and we deserved to get the lead. We were lucky with Regensburg's chances and Daniel Fernandes got a good save. All in all, this was a good continuation of our game against Unterhaching and let's hope this could be a "golden" December. I expect another home game in Dortmund next week in which our many fans will support us.

These 3 points put them on the sixth spot and 3 points away from the third-placed Rostock (the third team goes into the promotion play-offs with the 16th-placed team in the second-division). Osnabrück have won only 1 point in their last 4 away games.

Coach Walpurgis is not surprised with the fact that young Borussia have 25 points in the first part of the season.

- Dortmund II have a strong team that runs a lot and creates a lot of pressure on the pitch.

Midfielder Zenga is not eligible for this game due to his yellow card suspension. Instead of him, we might see Merkens who has recovered from knee injury. Coach Walpurgis hopes that their top-scorer Grimaldi will be fully recovered by Saturday.

It is expected that about 1500 fans will support their players in Dortmund. Since not a lot of home fans follow Borussia's second team, this game could be a "home" game for the players from Osnabrück, a town only some 100 km away from Dortmund.

Dortmund got a huge win at their away game against Elversberg (5-0) last weekend and have fulfilled their plans for the first par of the season and I expect Borussia's youth to be a bit more relaxed in this game. After all, Klopp will take their best players for the first team.
On the other hand, Osnabrück have surely not forgot about their ambition of reaching the second or the third place that leads to second division. After 2 wins in lst 3 games, they have a chance of getting closer to the top with a win here.
The Rote Erde pitch will be poor, which will cause more problems to young Dortmund players who are more technically-versed and proficient than the Osnabrück players. The away team are a powerful team and I believe they can impose their contact game to Borussia who are not accustomed to it and I think their physical inferiority will be a major deficit and that they will not be able to stand up to the visitors.
In addition, the away team will have more fans present than the home team so this won't be a real "away" game for Osnabrück. In any case, I believe the guests will win but in any case, I'd rather go for a draw no bet (AH+0).
