CSKA preparing for the start of the Euroleague round 2

Neptunas are characterized by shorter squad in which all players are able to score a three-pointer. The Lithuanian team will use their fast pace and high percentage of perimeter shots to make the life difficult for the much favored home team

The only VTB League game  that will be played between Christmas and New Year's will be today's game between CSKA and Neptunas. The Muscovites will use this game as the best preparation game for Euroleague Round 2 and their derby against Lokomotiv on Friday. On the other hand, Neptunas will try to use the possible lax attitude from the home team and make things more difficult for them.

CSKA have suffered another defeat in the competition so far and it was in the city derby against Himki in the last round. With this win, Himki gained advantage before the second part of the regular season and the Muscovites have no margin for error.If they want to get the best position in the play-offs and an easier draw, they have to win all games and get back at Kurtinaitis's team in the second game. Only a win will do against Neptunas. 

- I hope the break allowed the players to get some rest, physically and mentally. Our main goal in this game against Neptunas is to get back into our normal rhythm. The second round of Euroleague will start in four days and we have to be ready - said Messina whose team might not have Voroncevič.

Neptunas cannot be happy with the results in their season so far. They didn't get to round 2 of Eurocup while they are in a very difficult situation in the VTB League with a 2-6 score. However, after their away game today, they only have two away games more until the end of season and so the Lithuanian team will look for the way to catch up with the top teams in the run of home games. Neptunas's season so far has been marked by tight defeats in very close end-games that were decided by final balls.

- Each narrow end-game in which a single shot decides the game is a roulette. I can say were weren't very fortunate. We could have won the games against Minsk, Samara, Oktjabr. Luck was on our side against Astana. Luck was on our side against Astana and I hope it will be in the future - said Šarakauskas, one of the leaders of this team as he emphasized the expectations from the rest of the competition.

- Simply put, to win as many games as possible. We don't have a fixed goal like sixth or eighth spot. We will fight and try to get as much experience as possible. That is the basis for our future victories. 

Today's game is the one in which Maksvitisov's players have no pressure and in which Neptunas would eagerly accept the end-game to be decided by a single goal. CSKA are in a world of their own and the best the Lithuanians can do is to try to put up the best resistance possible. Neptunas cannot match CSKA's front court, and we can expect them to impose faster rhythm of the game and hope for a good shooting evening that would put them on equal terms for as long as possible.

- Our strong sides are fast offense, three pointers and we have to use that. There is no need to make things complicated, we have to stretch the defense, and get into good shooting positions. That's the way we build our play - said Šarakauskas and added:

- It is hard to expect that we will be able to surprise CSKA  but we will fight. No one can blame us if we lose by 30 points in Moscow and that's our advantage. We will play without any stress, for ourselves. I think we all remember the game last season in Klaipeda in which we put up a real fight against them. We will be happy if we repeat that on Monday.

In the mentioned game in Klaipeda, Neptunas played great 35-36 minutes and were practically leveled but the experience of the Moscow team decided the game. However, they had no chance in Moscow and CSKA got a routine win. They won by 22 points and we could expect a similar result today. I expect the Muscovites not to be fully motivated until the as all stronger European teams are focusing on physical aspect these days in order to withstand the heavy rhythm that January brings. It is possible that their legs might be a bit heavier, which might enable the Lithuanians to go through this with an acceptable defeat. 

There are no information about the possible return of long-term injured Butkevičius.

There's always a risk with bets like this with CSKA but judging by what we have seen this season, I doubt they will demolish Neptunas. The stats tell us that CSKA have covered this margin only against Partizan in their games this season. On the other hand, Neptunas haven't lost a single game by more than 15 points. They often lost very tight end-games and were rarely crushed. They were defeated by 22 points in Moscow last season but now they are more experienced and i expect them to put up better resistance. CSKA will take this game as a preparatory game before the Euroleague round 2 and I doubt they will go all the way. They haven't done so throughout the season and they have an away game in Krasnodar and Riga later this week. Neptunas have enough firepower to stay within this margin.
