Only a win or a draw would keep Denic's team in the battle for the first position in the group. After missing the EC in Denmark, a new failure would be disastrous for their handball. Preparations are underway, and the fact that Switzerland lost every chance of qualifying could make it easier.

Having lost the game against Ukraine, the Swiss team lost all chance of winning the first position in the group and to keep on hoping they would qualify for the World Championship. Following a draw on the road three days earlier, Switzerland had a great opportunity to decide on their own future in the home games against the direct competitors. However, they lost the first game by one goal, which means the final score in the other games won't be as important. 

The game against Ukraine definitely left a bitter taste in their mouth. Switzerland had a 25-21 lead at the beginning of the last quarter of the game, but they couldn't stay ahead, especially because of their defense. Ukraine managed to make a comeback, not even Liniger scoring seven goals could help Switzerland anymore. Andy Schmid's absence was more that visible in the key moments of the game, Switzerland would probably have done much better in this qualification had he been here. This was not the best way for coach Brack to start with this team.

Today, Switzerland is playing the team that ended the last World Championship in position four, and for whom this game has greater significance. Slovenia are still in the battle for the first position with Ukraine, only win would do here, and their approach and motivation are serious and extremely high. Brack is expected to give the players who don't get to spend as much time on the court more minutes in the game today, which will make winning even more difficult. 

This is the first out of the two crucial games for Slovenia. Ukraine beating Switzerland left them in position two, one point short of coach Portnoi's team. Slovenia will play Ukraine home this Sunday, but if they get defeated in Switzerland today, that game would lose all importance. Ukraine will definitely beat Luxembourg, and the Slovenians need at least one point here. They would have to make up for the -4 goals from the game in Ukraine in that case on Sunday. If they win in Switzerland, any kind of win on Sunday would mean they're still in the qualification.

After not being able to get into the European Championship in Denmark, not playing the World Championship in Qatar would be a disaster for the Slovenian handball. The significance of these games is huge, which was very obvious against Luxembourg on Sunday. The Slovenian game was bleak against the significantly inferior opponent, their minds were already set on this game. They were tied for the first 25 minutes, but only 15 minutes of playing for real was enough for Slovenia to get ahead by 12 points (30-18). They slowed down in the finish again, which allowed the opponent to slightly catch up.

- Everything depends on your approach in defense. The guys thought it would be easier. It did seem easy in the end. I'm not going to say the players lacked motivation, but they didn't react when they were supposed to, and overreacted on other occasions. We made mistakes and Luxembourg took advantage of it. But, we can't change the past and this game is already forgotten in my book - Denic said.

Denic knows that the toughest part is yet to come. Luxembourg was only a good warm up, much greater challenges lay ahead.

- Switzerland no longer have the possibility of winning position one, which could make it slightly easier for us. We are the best quality team in the group and we have to prove that on the court. We didn't qualify for the World Championship and want to make it right this time, show what we really are, and set things straight - said Denic, and added:

- They are completely relaxed now. Everyone plays to win. We will definitely have to play good defense and score as many easy goals as possible as a result of good defensive game. We can do it, we have players who are good in transition. The most important thing is the fact it all still depends only on us. We are better than both teams in every respect, maybe not to win by ten goals, but we are better.

Denic chose his most experienced men for this game. Sostaric, Stas Skube, Ferlin, and Bilbija didn't join the team, while Skof, Kavticnik, Bombac, and Bezjak recovered from injuries and travelled to Switzerland. Goal keeper Prost, whose son was born this Monday, is still not on the list.

- We are all well aware of how difficult playing 'relaxed' teams is. New coach Brack introduced some new things to the team. I saw they are relying on the 3-2-1 defense for about 20 minutes per game. My approach for the Switzerland will be the same as for any other team, very serious that is - Denic added.

- I know we sound like a broken record already, but we we will win the two games and get through to additional qualification - Uros Zorman said.

This is the crucial game for Slovenia. A defeat would prevent them from participating in the second big competition in a row. Their motivation will be at top level, I have no doubt about it. Switzerland have no chance of getting through anyway, they will be motivated to do good home, but I don't think their weakened team can cause problems for the Slovenians. I expect a great performance by Danic's players after quite a while, and a win by at least 4-5 goals.
