Braunschweig have suffered a new defeat in the last round, their seventh in the last nine rounds and their third one in a row. They played with a very narrow bench against Alba but they did alright in the first ten minutes. The breaking point came in the second period when their best players got suspended: center Kyle Visser and point guard James Florence. They were down by 17 points by half time and everything was settled.

- Since our already small rotation lost two important players in near the end of first half, it became very difficult. Again, I'm happy with the way the boys played in the second half - said coach Raoul Korner.

The only player that did alright was Isaiah Swann as he got 31 points (10/16) but he couldn't do it on his own. Braunschweig didn't have any game and it all came down to three-pointers. They had more attempts for 2 than for 3 points. Today, the home team will be in trouble once again. The league's discipline committee has decided to suspended Visser (13,6 points, 6 rebounds) for physically assaulting a referee while Florence only got a financial penalty. 

This means Braunschweig will be without their first-choice center and only six first-team players. The rest of the rotation will be filled with their B squad players, that is, by semi-amateurs. Just to reiterate, the home team are already without their two centers Harding Nana and Erick Land. Their reserve point guard is also in doubt. 

- We have to accept the fact the decision that hit us pretty hard. We are unhappy as the refs did not stop the game from getting out of control - said the sporting director Oliver Braun.

Coach Korner regards the today's game as very important:

- We should get the most out of this difficult situation. Würzburg have improved their game a lot in the last five rounds. They are playing controlled basketball and are very aggressive in defense.

Since their coach Stefan Koch arrived, Würzburg have significantly improved their game. As the home coach said, they improved their defensive game in particular. They have not conceded over 65 points in the last 3 rounds and their average since their new expert arrived is 67,4. After their wins against Ludwigsburg and Tübingen, they dealt with Brose. In defensive terms, it was one of the toughest games in the Bundesliga this season which saw a total of 110 points. 

Würzburg got a 7-point lead after the first period and had a decent advantage at half-time but they completely disappeared from offense in the remaining 20 minutes and have only scored 18 points until the end. Würzburg were, thus, limited to under 50 points and lost the game by a relatively high margin, despite limiting Brose to 61 points. 

- We did great in defense but we didn't managed to stand up to Brose's pressure in offense. I am not happy without rebounds in the last period in which the game was decided - said coach Koch.

Würzburg's efficiency from outside was virtually non-existent (4/20 for three-pointers) and they have score practically all their points from the paint. Centers Maximilian Kleber, Chris McNaughton and Jason Boone score 10 points each. Considering Braunschweig's problems in the paint, this trio could be the center of attention today, too.

They played against Braunschweig in pre-season and Braunschweig won that game by 73-68.

Braunschweig lose their crucial players each round. They will have to face Würzburg today without their suspended center Kyle Visser, one of the the top scorers in the club (13,6 points on average + 6 rebounds) which is a huge handicap. They lost Harding Nana earlier, their crucial power forward, and their reserve center Erick Land. Their reserve playmaker Zazai is in question, and Gertz is also out of action which means the team will be able to count only on 6 first-team players. They will fill in the gaps with youth players, that is, the members of their B team. It's a huge blow for the home team who remain reliant on their duo Swann-Florence and they will have to face Würzburg who are definitely on the up and have conceded an average of 67,6 points since their new coach Koch arrived. They limited Brose to 61 points in the last round, Tübingen to 65 in the game before that, and Ludwigsburg to 58. A particularly important thing is that the away team are the strongest in the paint. Their trio McNaughton-Kleber-Boone is in good form and the home team will have a hard time matching them under the rim. They key will be to stop Swann or Florence and Würzburg definitely know how to do that. The 76,5 points margin for the home team is purely statistical and it doesn't factor in the situation for the home team nor the offensive improvements for the away team.
