France in high spirits even without Ribery

Honduras never recorded a win in the World Cups. They will try to do it today against France, who destroyed Jamaica in the final preparation period game 8-0

France can't count on their top player Ribery, but they're very optimistic regardless, having destroyed Jamaica in a friendly match. The final score was 8-0 in that game. France managed to win only one point in South Africa, but the expectations in Brazil are much higher than that.

Ribery was not the only player to cause concern for Deschamps. Ahead of the competition, a few other players struggled with minor injuries (forwards Giroud and Benzema). Luckily for them, both of those players will be fit and ready to play Honduras. One of the doubts the coach had was whether to put Debuchy or Sagna in defense, but since the former missed a few practice session, it seems like Sagna will make it in the starting line up. 

Because of the aforementioned injury, Deschamps might regret not putting Nasri on the list for Brazil, but Paul Pogba, Yohan Cabaye, and Mathieu Valbuena are all good solutions for that problems.

- Ribery is one of the key players, both on the pitch and in the locker room. He's getting along with everyone. However, the preparation period proved that other players can replace him, and the atmosphere on the team is still good. Yes, he will be missed, but I think we can cope with his absence - defender Koscielny said.

Honduras never recorded a win in World Cups, and didn't manage to score a single goal in the last WC in Africa. They are the underdog here, that's pretty obvious, but Suarez's team will do their best to mess up with the French team's plans.

Unlike France, who did great in their friendly matches, Honduras did pretty badly. They lost to Turkey and Israel, but then surprisingly recorded a draw against England. In that match, Honduras proved to be physically very well prepared, while their technical abilities turned out to be rather poor.

Coach Suarez was not modest when taking about expectations:

- My players need to try and reach the next round. I know that's a very tough task, but that's is how you make it in the history books, and that's precisely what I want to do. This is not a field trip for us, we want to do a good job here.

The most important question for them is whether Suarez will opt to play with one of two forwards. Carlos Costly seems to be ready, which means he might play next to Jerry Bengston in offense. Bryan Becklels performance in the friendly match with England was not very good, but his position in the line up is probably safe.

Brazilian referee Ricci is appointed for this game. He was the best Brazilian referee in the year of 2010. When it comes to the greatest competitions in the world, he has so far been in the U20 World Cup, and the Club World Cup in Morocco. His average in international games is 4,55 yellow, 0,45 red cards, and 0,29 penalty kicks.

Honduras don't lack aggression, sometimes it even turns to foul play. That is what always comes up to surface in games they are forced to focus on defending themselves. A week ago, in a friendly match against England, four of their players were booked, one was sent off. Last year against Brazil (friendly as well) three of their players were booked, in a qualifying game against Mexico three players booked, three in the States, and so on.
The pressure will be greater here than in any of those games, and the referee appointed for this game has an average of 4,55 yellow, and 0,45 red cards. That is why I think Ecuador will do as usual. Not even the over in fouls (16,5-17) should be a problem.
