The Estonians have won last five Eurochallenge games, they have 10 wins in a row in all competitions and are hosting the Russians in great momentum

Quite expectedly, Tartu Rock's last game in the Baltic League against Valga away was a light training session for them. Gert Kullamae's team beat  their compatriots by 30 points. After that, they faced a theoretically difficult game in the Eurochallenge as they hosted the Romanian Gaz Metan but it was another walk in the park for them as they beat them by 30 points as well. After these games, Tartu had 3 games in the Estonian League and the first one was the most difficult one. They had an away game against Kalev Cramo and they handled them and the following two opponents the right way. So, Kullamae's team is expecting the Russians with 10 consecutive wins. They had their last game against Valga in the league 4 days ago, but as they beat them by 45 points, it is not hard to assume that the coach made many rotations and that no player played for more than 20 minutes which is why fatigue should not be a problem today. 

Tartu currently have the maximum efficiency in the Eurochallenge group I and one of those wins came from an away win in Samara. Due to 3-0 score, it is clear that the Estonians will secure the quarter-finals if they win the game today. They certainly have the good momentum as they not only have 10 consecutive wins in all competition, but 7 consecutive wins in the Eurochallenge. Tartu are also the best team in this competitions in terms of field goal efficiency (49.2%). 


Their center Toome got injured in the last game as he sprained his ankle after a misfortunate landing.


- We are trying to prepare him for the game and it doesn't seem that terrible. He is taking pain medication and we will see if he is able to help us - said Tartu Rock coach, and reflected on their opponents:


- We have seen the video of our game against them in Russia, but we will probably change some details in our tactics as they have brought some new players, even though their style remains the same. One-on-one and defense will be decisive today.


Apart from Toome, the rest of the team has no injury problems. 


The situation in Samara is getting stable. The title defenders have won their last two away games and have beaten Krasni Oktjabr in the last round of the VTB League. The situation in all competitions is under control, and the shock after the departure of both Wrights, Zabelin's injury and Miles's absence in some games has been relatively nullified. 


Ignierski and Videnov have adapted to the club great and were among the best players in the Eurochallenge wins while Larry O'Bannon has also done well in his debut for the club as he switched from the French Antibes. He scored 12 points against Oktjabr (4/9) and added 6 rebounds.  Ignierski and Videnov were somewhat modest in that game but Pokrashov was brilliant with 32 points (12/19 field goal). 


- Today's game was very important in terms of reaching the play-offs. We are glad we didn't suffer a mental breakdown after the poor third period. We have a new team, we have to understand the capabilities of our players and how they react in critical situations. I didn't want to risk using Zabelin, even though he looked well enough in the last practice session. Pokrashov was great, he was confident throughout the game - said Bazarevich after the win in the VTB League. 


Tartu are the only team to beat Samara in the first three Top 16 games. The Russians want to get their vengeance but the pressure is smaller as they have two home games to play until the end in which they will decide their own fate, even if they lose in Estonia. Zabelin should be able to play here and Bazarevich will have the strongest squad available at the moment.

Honestly, I don't understand the reasoning behind such a margin. It is true this game is not crucial for either of the teams, but I expect a tough match. Tartu have one of the best defenses in this competition, and only Antwerp (47) scored over 67 in Estonia. The philosophy Bazarovič runs, on the other side, is well known, and he will look for a victory through defense here. The situation is somewhat better after they brought in a few more players, but this is a rather shuffled up team, and it is normal for things to still stutter on defense. The first game in Russia ended under 140 points in regular time, and I wouln't be surprised by a similar scenario today. All things considered, this margin seems too high to me.
