Today we find out the first finalist of the Russian Cup. After the first 40 minutes, Lokomotiv Kuban are one step closer to the finals as they got a 9-point lead in Volgogard. However, Oktyabr were in a similar position in the quarter-finals when they were defeated at home by CSKA Moscow (81-75) but an away win go them through in to the semi-finals.

Lokomotiv have been preoccupied by Euroleauge lately but it seems their dreams about reaching the quarter-finals will come to a nasty halt. They went into the last two games with a tied score, both total and in H2H with Galatasaray. As both teams were defeated in heavy away games this week, it might all be decided by point difference. Unlike Galatasaray, who suffered a minimal defeat against CSKA, Lokomotiv were humiliated in Madrid and they can only get away if Partizan win in Turkey and Lokomotiv win the home game against Bayern.

- This is a heavy defeat for us. Real Madrid have done a great job, they were better in both attack and defense. The first half decided the game. We fought until the end and we improved our defense a bit by the end but not our offense. Now we have to think about the decisive game against Bayern - said Pashutin.

The situation is very difficult but Lokomotiv are not giving up and are hoping the Serbian team will help them. Before the final showdown in the elite European competition, Lokomotiv have to finish their job in the Cup and get in the finals. In the first game, they overturned their half-time deficit in the third period and got a big lead but Pashutin is aware the job is not done.

- This is the Russian Cup and we are facing a huge battle in the second game. We are not underestimating our opponents as they have shown they are capable of beating the biggest team. We have to show defense that yielded results in the second half of the first game. We paid more attention to Deane, Wafer and Cuthbert then - said Pashutin ahead of the game.

The mentioned foreigners, in addition to the newly-arrived King, are the main reason for Oktyabr's ambitions in this game. Their quarter-final experience will give them the confidence they need, along with what has been a great season so far. Oktyabr have secured the place in the VTB League play-offs and will play against Lokomotiv in the Round of 16. Today, they will try to get a new surprise result and make up for their deficit from the first game.

One of the crucial segments in the first game was Lokomotiv's domination in rebounds (18 offensive rebounds). Brown (19 pts), and Hendrix (12 pts and 11 reb) dominated the paint and they tipped the scale in the favor of the team from Krasnodar. Oktyabr were better in the first half and  were u by 6 points but a bad start of the second half proved to be crucial. The rebounds will be one of the crucial segments today as well.

One can expect Lokomotiv to preserve their main players in the later stages of the game if they settle the matter of the winner early on. They still have some chance of reaching the Euroleague quarter-finals and they will try to do their job today without spending too much energy. Oktyabr have shown they should not be underestimated as the were on a par in the first game, apart from the third period. In addition, their American players represent a huge attacking potential and they will be able to use any kind of lax attitude Lokomotiv show, as was the case during the season.

Oktyabr are still a team with high attacking potential but the arrival of Wafer has brought them better discipline and better performances in defense. The results are visible at first glance: Oktyabr have played 9 games with him and have not allowed over 84 points in every game, unlike in the rest of the season when they allowed under 83 points on only one occasion. In mentioned 9 games, we should definitely mention three games with CSKA and the game against Lokomotiv a week ago. The team from Krasnodar managed to get back with 46 points in the second half but still stayed well below this margin. Looking at all games Lokomotiv have played this season (43 in all competitions), they have gone over in only 4. A slightly smaller stake on account of a possible relaxed attitude if they settled this game early, but no one can tell me this is a realistic margin. Lokomotiv have a crucial Euroleague game in a few days and will try to do their job as soon as possible and I see them closer to 80-85 points, maybe even less, but definitely not over 90. Oktyabr have shown their quality in recent weeks, there is a chance they make the life for their opponents even more difficult and this bet should go through then without a problem. A counter-handicap is also a good bet as Lokomotiv will rest their leading players for the game against Bayern if they get a bigger lead here.
