Messina: We have to approach this game as if it were the last game in the series

CSKA have won both games in Kazan and it will be very hard to stop their quest for the new title. UNICS will have a hard time getting a single win in this series

After CSKA have come back from their abyss and covered a two-game deficit behind Lokomotiv, it was clear that UNICS will have a very difficult task. Trinchieri refused to accept the role of the favorite and he said he would be happy with one win from the first two games. Even though his teams had their chances in both games, they ended up empty-handed and have found themselves on the verge of elimination. 

The first game was very efficient, but the second was a complete opposite. Both teams had to fight hard for every point, as reflected in the final result. UNICS missed out on +13 a few minutes before the end in the first game of the series, while CSKA controlled the second game. UNICS were destroyed by Krstić in the first fixture while they found a cure for him in the second (0/5 field goal), and have managed to impose their domination in rebounds (43-36) but it was not enough. After a few modest games Weems (22 pts) appeared, and Teodosić (17 pts, 7 reb) put in a good shift and that decided the game. It's well-known that CSKA have a few players that can do well in rebounds and take the team to a win. 

- We have been fighting throughout the entire game but we didn't manage to win. We had our problems on the attack. In certain points in the game, CSKA seemed better than us. It's important to play a smart game against CSKA, to have a better flow of the ball, but we failed in doing so - Andrea Trinchieri was honest.

The Muscovites are now in a great position and it's very hard to see someone stopping them from taking the new VTB League title. Realistically speaking, this is the final before the final as Nizhny and Lietuvos will very probably not be able to beat CSKA in the best out of 5 series. 

- It's clear the game was very tough. Many players are tired after yesterday's battle. At the same time, the team has played very well and I'm proud of their performance. It's hard to control the game when you're playing away and have the minimal lead of a few points. We didn't convert many good shooting chances but we were not nervous. We are aware that the series is not over and we will prepare ourselves for the next game - said Messina. 

The Italian coach has managed to show his quality as he has picked his team up from a very difficult situation after their failure at the Final Four in Milano, and CSKA are looking very well now. Messina refuses to think that the job is done and emphasizes:

- We have to approach this game like it's the fifth game of the series. We cannot think that we'll have a second chance or it could affect our performance. We have to approach the game like we did against Panathinaikos and Lokomotiv Kuban, play a patient and careful game, focus on rebounds, defense flow of the ball. UNICS are a great team with many excellent shooters. 

The Muscovites are still without Micov and Jackson and the absence of their PG means more time for Teodosić. The Serbian point guard has pretty much recovered from his injury, he has taken over the responsibility in recent games and one can expect a good game from him. On the other hand, UNICS will probably be complete but Trinchieri himself is probably aware that his team will have a hard time extending this series any more. This CSKA definitely belongs to the very top of European basketball and UNICS seem to be missing something to be able to fight them on equal terms.
