As much as -15 against Spain and -18 against Denmark are in no way an accurate reflection of the quality of this Macedonian team. Talking with the coaching staff after the match, the main reason for the bad performances was detected in a mental block when teams such as Denmark or Spain are on the other side. Against Russia, Macedonia showed a full 50 minutes of the way they can play. Taleski is far from his maximum, but interviews before this match show that he is eager to perform better and get his team to the WC. I expect a much more drive, proud Macedon, and there will be no metal issues against neighbors. At the tournament in Bugojno this Macedonian team have proven they can handle the regional opponents, playing an even match against Slovenia at full strength , a team who are a few classes above Serbia. It's true that Serbia have a somewhat stronger defense and goalie, but to win a match you need to score, and Serbia are in huge trouble on that front. Absences of Arsenić and Đuričić are really felt, and Serbia lack the running quality of Spain or Denmark to take advantage of the good defense and run counterattacks against Macedonia. The Macedonian players will not allow their neighbors to beat them easily, and I see this as a much closer match than the odds suggest. Unlike Serbia, Macedonia have a perimeter lineup with Taleski, Neloski and Davitkovski that can deal with the 6-0 defense of Serbia, and if they finally perform properly, I have no doubt they'll have a chance.
