Khimki will almost certainly be without Davis and Augustine again

A win for Lokomotiv takes them into the finale and next year's Euroleague, and given the circumstances, they have a great opportunity to bring this series to its end

With the win on Monday, Lokomotiv came close to the finale and next season's Euroleague. It's completely deserved because they were in the lead from the start, and except for the short period in the second quarter, they were the better team throughout the game. Because of that drop at the end of the first half, Khimki went on the break with the minimal lead, but the remainder of the game was completely dominated by Lokomotiv. The team from Krasnodar limited Khimki to only 16 points in 20 minutes, which is a fascinating information considering the quality of Khimki's offense. 

- We played great defense in the second half, mostly thanks to Balasov. That gave us the chance to create bigger difference - said coach Bazarevic. 

Lokomotiv were, once again, led by excellent Delaney (23 points and 6 assists), and with defense, another key part of the game were rebounds (46-27), especially in the second half, when Khimki's center duo got tired. If we look at the efficiency, Brown and Hendrix were pretty modest (10 points combined), Randolph didn't play due to injury (there are no news about his condition ahead of today's game), but it was simply confirmed once again that Lokomotiv have a wide specter of solutions in the offense. Eight of their players scored at least 4 points, and Khimki, on the other hand, struggled for each point.

- I hope everyone understands that this is not over, we have to play the same way on Wednesday as well - Bazarevic is trying to reduce the euphoria. 

Khimki's defeat in the third game, considering the absences, is no surprise, but Kurtinaitis can't be happy with what he saw. Ahead of the game we pointed out that his team without Davis and Augustine might have a lot of problems in the paint. However, the tall players, Pateev (11 points and 7 rebounds) and Claver (16 points and 6 rebounds) were the best individuals in the team, especially in the first half when they still had energy in them. However, the rest of the team completely failed, especially Rice and Koponen, who combined made 6/19 shots from the floor. 

- Our current roster is good enough for us to win with the right attitude, but several players seem to mentally already be on summer vacation. That is not professional and it makes me angry - Kurtinaitis was very unhappy after the game, and he found the reason of their loss in the numerous technical errors they made in the second half: 

- I am worried about those errors, they were made by the same players that won the Eurocup and it is not acceptable. They say a lot about out attitude and concentration. 

Khimki accoplished their main goal by winning the Eurocup, they secured the Euroleague spot next season, but the club definitely counted to at least go into the finale of this competition. They're facing elimination and today's game will be a big test, especially of the player's character. 

- Hope dies last and we have a chance to correct everything on Wednesday. We will try to recover the players, both physically and mentally - added Khimki's strategist. 

Khimki will be playing without Davis and Augustine again today, which is a big handicap, because Pateev is having less and less strength. Lokomotiv could dominate the paint even more today than two days ago. 

- There is no chance that Davis will play in this series. It's coach's job to choose a strategy, but it's not easy, because Honeycutt, Davis and Augustine are all absent - said Kurtinaitis after the third game. 

Khimki have a difficult job ahead of them, and if they want to win, they will first and foremost have to be more disciplined. Besides that, they will need Koponen and Rice to play great, because the team practically depends on them. Lokomotiv currently appear more complete, they are on a momentum after two wins, and they will have support from the bleachers once again.

Lokomotiv played a more modest first half in Game 3. They were making quite a few mistakes and leaving a lot of room in defense for the opponents. However, they played their best in the second half and the final point-difference doesn't come as a surprise. Khimki can also be worried about the fact their players were doing well while they had energy but as soon as they ran out of it their game collapsed. I am very skeptic about Claver and Pateev being able to play as well as they have two days ago because they lack quality compared to Lokomotiv's front court and because they are clearly tired, Pateev in particular. Lokomotiv destroyed them by 23 points even though Brown and Hendrix did nothing special, which means they still have room for progress. They seem like a much better-quality and more complete team at the moment. They're on a roll and feel very motivated to get a spot in Euroleague. On the other hand, Khimki seem to have found enough satisfaction in the Europcup trophy. They are without three important players (injuries), while Popovic and Seleketo aren't in form at all. Everything basically comes down to Koponen and Rice. The American seems pretty unmotivated. Lokomotiv were a much better team in the first two games played at Khimki's arena. The circumstances are now in favor of Lokomoitv even more and if something doesn't change drastically, we should see another convincing win for home team, in my opinion by a double-digit point difference.
