I have been following Japan and Australia for a long time and I assure you I have never seen better Japan and worse Australia. Today's prediction goes in the same direction. Japan defeated unpleasant Egypt, they were completely even with the Americans in two sets, while the Australians collected 'crumbs' against the USA and Italy. Absences of Sanderson, Zingel and Roberts are too big of a handicap for the Kangaroos, they simply don't have an average hitter except for Edgar, middle blockers are slow and sluggish, and their reception is horrible. Everything, absolutely everything is on the side of the hosts. We can take the results from recent Asian championship for comparison. Japan took the gold, and on their way there they defeated Qatar and Iran by 11 and 8 points, and those teams defeated stronger Australia than the one here. Offered handicap seems too low considering everything mentioned above, -9.5 or even -10.5 seem more realistic.
