All credit to Denmark and their home court but the odds at 4.3 on Croatia, from which this margin was derived are simply not realistic. Last year's WC which the Danes won by 6 points cannot be a measure of strength as Croatia played with a half-dead Duvnjak, and Goluža "got lost" and took Vori out after 10 minutes of play. Vuković got injured, and he was an important part of Croatian defense then, while Štrlek had gone home earlier than expected also due to injury. This is a different Croatia, with a ready Duvnjak, with Buntić and Štrlek, a better rested team than in previous competitions and I believe Goluža is more experienced after three consecutive semi-final defeats, and even if he isn't, that's why Zovko is there to help him. Judging by the game against Poland, it could go this way. Every change he made, had a points, especially the defense with Vori. That 5-1 with Vori up front is something you rarely see in today's handball and something with which Croatia played perhaps the best handball in its history at the Olympics.Voris has had enough rest to play that today. Croatia could have a solution to the problem called Mikkel Hansen - whether with 5-1 or complete elimination from the game as they did in London when Croatia crushed Denmark, or with deep 6-0. Hansen will have to penetrate two (Kopljar, Gojun) or even three (Vori) of his club teammates that know him very well to get each goal. And if they stop Hansen, Croatia is on its way to win. The rest of the team simply don't have the quality to be the favorites against Croatia. After all, they played in somewhat similar circumstances, in a friendly tournament in Denmark and Croatia almost won but Goluža gifted the game away by introducing the reserves in the last 10 minutes. I expect an unpredictable game until the end, especially if the refs do not get involved, but certainly not a drubbing by the Danes. Details

The Spanairds are the reigning champions of the world and the odds reflect that but someone obviously forgot that they got to the throne in Spain, with the support of Štrebik, with A. Entrerrios in back court, with Aguinagalde completely healthy and Valero Rivera on the bench, while the French team was out of form, both as a team and individually (Karabatić's personal problems with gambling) and they met Croatia on their right day.
The Spaniards struggle against an organized attack, their back line is largely dependent on Canalles, a man in the reserve for his club, and Maqueda, the right back of the fifth team in the French league. They were saved against Austria, who are nowhere near the same level as Spain, by Aguinagalde who only recently got back after a long break as he got 8/10 and was given more balls. This fact reflect their lack of power in offense, which is something they used to mask with Šterbik on goal, as that kind of individual gives his team a 3-goal advantage right from the start. Sierra and Vargas are not in the same class as Arpad. It's no wonder this Spain had to save their behind against Norway and Austria and that they lost against Denmark.
The French have at least 5 world class players (Karabatić, Omeyer, Narcisse, Fernandez, Sorhaindo) on crucial positions, they are a better team and seem very powerful here, both as a team and as their best individual (Karabatić), they have more experience and have managed to get some rest in last few games, and I have no doubts Onesta will prepare them tactically for this match.
As hard as I try, I can't seem to find something that speaks in favor of the Spaniards, hence, the high stakes. Details

The French Sorhaindo and Anić 1 each, Serbian Toksić 1 and Stojković 0, for Poland B. Jurecki 1. Russia took a total of four goals from the line in their first three games, and now A. Nilsson is supposed to score 4 in one? France fired most from the line, four times, scored two gals, but this was a 63 goal game that was settled early. Serbia managed only one shot from the line, as did Poland, and B. Jurecki scored it. It is no puzzle as to why this happened: Russia came without Dibirov, and as such without a true 5-1 option, so when their giants line up into 6-0, it looks really bad for their opponents. With such a wall pivots rarely get a chance to shoot. With all due respect to Nilsson's scoring so far (14-14 so far in the champonship), but 4-4 vs Montenegro and 7-7 vs Belarus are something else. Nilsson managed to get three passes to the line vs Croatia, one when Gojun and Vuković rushed out and forgot about him on the line, and the other two when he used his strength advantage vs Čupić on the far side position. This will be far, far harder vs Russia. They do not step out vs perimeter shooters, and if they did not so far, there is not reason to start vs the unimpressive Swedish perimeter snipers such as the not-so-tall Karlsson or Jakobsson who struggled in all three of their games. The only danger remaining is Du Rietz, who on the other hand can't create that much room for Nilsson. Nilsson does not play defense, has no transition scoring, and I just don't see how he can get 4 passes behind the set up defense of Russian "towers". After all, he is supposed to miss a shot by now too... Details

All the respect to Belarus for eliminating Slovenia en route to this championship, but they are still one level below Poland, and I seriously doubt the Polish selection will struggle here. Firstly, there is the difference in quality - apart from Rutenka, none of the starting lineup of Belarus would qualify to play in the Polish selection. Rutenka cannot beat strong teams by himself, which was clearly proven in their match vs Sweden, where not even 13 goals scored by him could beat a team that is on par with Poland in terms of quality. Sweden and Croatia are two very tough defensive teams against whom Belarus could not do much. Furthermore, fatigue plays a role as well. Poland have a very wide roster, especially on back positions (with 4 really good left backs), and Belarus will find it much harder to play their fourth game within eight days. If I were to portray the difference in strength between these two teams, I'd disregard the friendly match played before this Euro, which Belarus won (and which is the reason for this margin), and concentrate on the one from the last World Championship, which Poland won with the score "just" 24-22. However, those that remember that game know that victory for Poland was never in question, that they led by as much as +8 and entered the last 10 minutes with +5.... and all that in the opening game of the championship in which the shallow roster of Belarus could not make itself felt. Another great bet would be Belarus < 25.5 goals, but I fear a collapse of their game should Poland take off on a big lead. Similar to that, you can try Belaurs on under 12.5 in the first part, but for this I picked the widely available -2.5 on Poland. Details

Yes, Serbia have played 20-19 at the opening against a defensively very strong Poland and yes, the Serbian coach Matić is announcing a "trench war" but I don't believe this war will be at 20-20 goals but rather at some 28-28...Matić also said they will aim to get as many counters and semi-counters and have more problems against the positional attacks than the French, which is logical considering their sluggish back court. This is not Vuković's Serbia that had long attacks that would last for hours, this is Matić's Serbia that takes care of its attacks much faster and tries to play as high as they can against an unorganized zone in which the gung-ho shooters like Vujin "fire at will". The Russians, on the other hand, cannot go for anything but high-scoring games. Out of last 24 games, they went over in 19 cases, and the exceptions were the games against different opponents, usually much faster and more aggressive, and with deeper defense than Serbia (2x Brasil, Tunisia)The Russians conceded over 30 goals in last 9 games with shallow defense they have (they don't have the players for any other kind of defense) and with keepers as critical as those that they have it's no wonder. Realistically speaking, when you put your faith in a 40-year-old Levshin who wasn't a star when he was at the top of his game and has been "making ends meet" in Bundesliga for the past 10 years, then I don't know how you intend to defend yourself from shooters like Ilić, Vujin and the rest. A very important game for both teams. This could be the game that decides whether Hungary goes through while a defeat for Iceland would mean they have no chance of getting a a serious place. Iceland have shown very strong and rough defense against Norway and they are facing Hungary who are not really renowned for their run'n'gun style. Their 61 goals in the game against Spain should not be taken as a measure of things as the game lost its intensity when Spain got a major lead. Iceland showed something more in the first game but this game will be much more leveled. Without Nagy, and Csaszar out of form, the Hungarians have nothing to put their faith in but defense. After all they have gone under in 39 of their last 50 games. Out of last 22, 19 unders - and those three are exceptions - the already mentioned game against Spain, a friendly game with Belarus and qualifiers against Slovakia in mid-July when everyone's mind was already on vacation. In 2012, these teams played 2 very tough head-to-heads, it was 27-27 in regular time at the Olympics and 21-27 at WC in Spain. I see no reason why things should pan out differently today. A good option is also team under for Hungary (28.5) and first half under (28.5). Details
