Castello are to face Valencia in a preseason game. These two teams always have these kind of meetings. Last year, Valencia won 83-65 (38-26), two years ago 79-51 (45-30). Castello kept coach Toni Teno over the summer. He got them to avoid relegation last season. They changed the team drastically and played two test games so far. They lost the first one to second-tier Prat (spot 13 last year) 77-81 (42-30). On Monday, they lost to third-tier Alicante 62-68 (27-36).
Valencia are starting their bid to defend the title with a new coach, who was in charge at Canarias the past few seasons. He puts emphasis on defense. The team played 4 games so far and were weakened in all of them. They beat Fuenlabrada in Madrid and lost to the Andorra on neutral grounds 77-80 (Andorra have a brilliant offensive end). In Nantes, they lost to Barcelona 63-69 (27-34), to Monaco 63-76 (44-36).
Last year they met Castello early in the preseason (August 28), Valencia were more complete than today but key players didn't spend much time on the floor. Diot didn't play, Dubljevic was not there, Vives got limited to two points. I don't think Castello will do much better than last year.
