AEK and Braunschweig meet in the semis of this tournament. AEK finish behind Panathinaikos and Olympiacos last season as expected but they improved after coach Zdovc was sacked. The coach that took over is still in charge, as well as some key players. But there were quite a few changes made to the team (Ukić, Mavrokefalidis, Milošević, Vasileiadis, Dixon left). Green joined from Karsiyaka, James from Balikesir, Barlow from Trikala, Xanthopoulos from Aris... They played three preseason games so far. In Charlieroi they beat Bayreuth 92-85 (15 art the start of the last quarter). In the final they beat hosts Spirous 98-91 (54-38 HT). A few days ago, they beat CSKA Moscow (weakened but still strong) and won 78-69 (43-29).
Braunscweig play the top German division. They finished in 16th last season and avoided relegation. The coach is still here but not all key players stayed (Medlock, Pierre, Groselle, Guyton, Boykin all left). Their key player will not be newly-acquired Eatherton and Kanavicius together with Kone and Klepeisz. They lost to Jena 71-76 in the first test games and 89-90 to Oldenburg home in a game that was closed for the public.
