Ribe-Esbjerg - Holstebro (28:35)

Holstebro coach: We must win

The away team is pushing for a top 5 position, but after two rounds still did not win a match, and whats more next rounds are against the best: Kolding, BSV, and Aalborg

These two teams met in a game just before the beginning of the season. Tvis coach Klavs Bruun Jorgensen was very angry after 25-25. He still isn’t happy with his players, who still await their first victory after a draw at home Sonderjyske, while Ribe lost to  BSV but won in Ringsted.

- The match was balanced, they were better in the first 15 minutes, we in the second of both halves. - The coach Nick Rasmussen said.

The right backcourt Jonas Langerhuus (see photo) was not certain for the match, but he appeared in the end and scored three goals for the team. The crucial moment of the match was the penalty shot of  Kasper Larsen from TMS, after the official time was out.

- It is great that Kasper was the match winner. I think Soren Norgard played well. He is our new left wingman and he is really good.

Norgard transferred from second division team Lemvig this summer, replacing the best scoring player of the league the left wingman Jeppe Ribera, who is retiring. For now, he looks promising. So does the right wingman Morten Vium from Skjern. He scored 8 goals against Ringsted, and after two rounds now has 14 goals scored. Norgard andi Vium account for  25 out of 55 goals by Ribe. The offensive line is in good hands with Langerhuus, Helt Jepsen and the left backcourt Ronnie Mathiasen.

- I think our offensive positions look better than ever. In spite of what happens in a match, we never surrender, and our counterstrikes are great and we need to keep them up.  - coach Rasmussen was satisfied, as reported by Hbold.dk.

Last season Tvis easily won both matches they played in Esbjerg 35-30, and in Holstebr 42-27. They seem to know how to win against Langerhuus &co.

- There is more to this team than what was seen in the first two rounds, and we are highly motivated to win this match, a victory is sorely needed to boost our faltering confidence.  - The goalie Michaela Bruun quoted.

Motivation will not be an issue; they need this victory badly, because they are playing against KIF Kolding, BSV and Aalborg, and a home match against TMS Ringsted. This is a final rehearsal for Kolding.

- We have problems against set offence, with only Allan Damgaard and Patrick Wiesmach in good shape.

They were losing for the better part of the game against Sonderjyske, but after 22-20  they were on the offence thrice in a row and had a chance to go to +3. They failed, Sonderjyske took the lead 25-24, with Damgaard shooting for a draw, his 8th scored goal 30 seconds before the end.

- The important thing is that we did not lose. Also I’m glad the defense was good with both goalies great, Rasmus Lind and especially Jonas Hansen. Unfortunately we did not use that advantage for effective counterstrikes.

Coach Jørgensen has only one message for today’s match: "We must win".

- Our performance in first two matches was not impressive but that should change now. Esbjerg will be a tough match, these guys fight to the last, using every advantage they can.  - coach added as reported by Tvis Holstebra club web page.

- We will be in trouble if we let them set the pace. We should be the ones that set it. Mistakes on the offence must not happen and defense needs to watch out for Mathiesen and Langerhuus.

Jorgensen is troubled by injuries of  Michael Damgaard and Jakob Geen, and also of Christian Albertsen, who is out for a while now.

- Our backcourt positions are the issue, Allan Damgaard and Jacob Thoustrup will have to step in, also Johan Meklenborg, who was great in the practice sessions.

Worth noting is that Meklenburg is a lightweight center and also a player of Cadet team Denamark (born in 1994) who won gold medal in Hungary. Michael Damgaard not playing is a big setback, him being the key backcourt player. There is hope of him playing, he appeared in the Aarhus match, as did Green so he might be a substitute. He scored 121 goals last season, 5 against Ribe.

  • 14.09.2013. 12:44h Rasmussen: Holstebro have one of the best defences in the league
Ribe-Esbjerg coach Nick Rasmussen said prior to the match for the local newspaper JydskeVestkysten: - We are hosting a very good team. Our attacking play will face a great challenge because Tvis is probably one of the best defending teams in the league. They have several 6-0 defensive variations. Jakob Green is especially good in play interruption. We mustn't let him catch us

Holstebro performed poor in the first two rounds and today we will see a much decisive team, I am convinced. If the appearance of Michael Damgaard, an important left back, got confirmed I would be much more certain but I think they will win this match anyway. Last season they had an efficient tactic against Ribe, they played fast, they scored 42 goals at home and 35 in Esbjerg. As the offense was a bit poor in the first two rounds, I believe that during the week they prepared well for this match and this 26.5 is simply not enough for me. It needs to be played on. Ribe is not known as a very good defensive team, in the first round they conceded 29 goals at home against BSV and in the second round they conceded 28 against TMS Ringsted in a visiting match.
