Limoges had an excellent preseason

The away team lost only the last of ten matches in the preparations and presented an excellent offensive play. The rookies in the league will prefer a faster play as well, as was the case last season

Antibes are one of two rookie teams in the league and a team whose main objective is to stay in the elite rank. Their long-term ambitions are somewhat higher but everyone in the club are aware that without continuity of performance nothing big can be accomplished in the first division. They will certainly try to enter playoffs this season, if there happens to be a chance for that. The championship is very equal and it is possible that only a few wins would separate those who enter playoffs from those who will play in the second division next season.

The home team kept the main frame of the team which won their spot in the highest rank of the French basketball and brought in some reinforcements which should additionally improve their performance. That will be mandatory as the quality in Pro A is significantly higher. The power forward Blue and the shooting guard duo Hillard-Fein will be the foundation players of the game organized by Huffman.

Antibes lost Badiane, but bringing his countryman Sene and experienced Vebob should secure the position of the center. The leaders did a smart job and in Antibes they can be satisfied with it.

Now it remains to be seen how it will look on the courts of the first division. The preparation matches didn't look so great, there were some losses and troubles against lower league teams but now the real things follow. A good start of the season would erase all that happened and bring new vigor in the locker room. Antibes play their first match at home where they will try to have a successful start to the season in front of their fans.

 - The team is more focused on the offense, same as last season. We will try to continue with that - said the coach Toupane.

Last season Antibes were third in scored points in the regular season of the second division (83.6), behind Boulogne-sur-Mer and Pau Orthez. However, their defense was not brilliant (78.3 points) and of the teams that entered playoffs only Le Portel conceded more, only nine more to be precise. Considering their primary players remained unchanged and considering the words of the new coach, it should be no different this season. Antibes will play a somewhat faster basketball once again.

However, the rookies will not have it simple today. Limoges perhaps had the most successful preseason of all first division teams. Only the last, tenth match was lost by minimal margin against Dijon. They presented a big offensive potential and haven't scored 80 points only against the defensive Dijon and Roanne but they didn't go under 73 with them either. It is the fruit of the style insisted on by the coach Dupraz and all points to the fact we will be watching a new and far better Limoges than last season.

However, first matches already showed how preseason doesn't have to mean anything. Le Havre outclassed Pau at home after very poor preparations and Orleans surprisingly won away against the strong Chalon with two important players missing. The championship is a new proving ground and it is never easy to start with an away match.

 - Preseason was long, now starts the real deal. We can't wait to begin - pointed out Alex Oriakhi, one of the new players in the squad.

Limoges will be missing the suspended playmaker Gomis up until December but that has been known for a long time and there should be no problems about that. Taurean Green confirmed in preparation matches that he fitted in well in the team and now he only needs to bring that to championship matches.

    Limoges has a somewhat shorter starting five, and they will be tested today. Rebounds might be the biggest problem during the preparation period, and Antibes might shed some light on that weakness, as they have two players over 2.10, Sene and De Jong.

    -Oriakhi usually picks up fouls rather quickly, and with him off the court, center is played by JK Edwards, who is 2m tall. We might be at a height disadvantage, and in that case we all have to work extra hard to compensate for that-     said Dupraz, adding that Antibes are somewhat weaker on the defense.

    Despite the nice results during the preparatory games, Dupraz keeps both feet on the ground:

    -Winning is nice, but we must keep in mind that the opponents we played with during preparations were mostly not in full strength. The championship is long, but it would surely be very nice to open it with a win.

Pretty much everything has been said in the preview. Limoges have a great preseason behind them as they were left under this margin only once in ten games; it was against a defensively strong Dijon team where they were stopped at 73 points. They ended up at 77 against Roanne, while they scored at least 82 against every other team. Limoges' offense was the third least efficient in the league last season, but this is a new team, with a new coach who advocates an offensive style. On the opposite side, Antibes were quite efficient in the second division. As already mentioned in the preview, only Le Portel conceded a fraction more. A new coach is in charge, but he stated that he would keep the same style. He said that he likes to play basketball that makes fans happy, and I doubt that Antibes will change much compared to the way they played last season. Their preseason games support that claim, as they regularly allowed over 70 points, often over 80. The start to the season will bring anxiety, but considering both teams' styles, I expect an high-scoring game. Limoges are the favorites in my opinion, they have the better team and could be the dark horse in this championship, which is why I opted for the away team over, rather than total combined score.
