It took a long time for Anzhi to recover from the problems they faced in the first part of the season, but they are playing well now. Since they sold their players there is all sorts of talk of bad issues behind the team, from politics to finance, and its going on even now as they're playing well. The main cause for the sales was discord among players, as usual in Russian teams, where in a team such as Zenit the roster is split into the Russian and international clans. Returning to the game, as it was impossible to quickly put together 15 new players into a team after the sale, the result suffered in the first part of the season. The winter break helped, as did some reinforcements, so Anzhi now look more than well, and the team spirit is high, as opposed to times when Eto'o, Willian and others were arround. They showed that against Genk in national championship against title contender Spartak and in the last game in Netherlands, where they took an unlucky goal.
Still, there is the second game, the conditions will be tough, and make it much harder on the guests than the accustomed home team.
Alkmaar got away once, but lost a won game against Twente in the last round, losing morale there. They are also playing without a coach, and if Anzhi repeats his recent performance, the Dutch will lose this. The odds went down recently, but there is still value there as the home team have a 50% chance to win (this game, not the aggregate match).
