Efes cannot afford to lose this

The game that's coming up next Tuesday against Zvezda is much more important for Cedevita. It will be interesting to see whether Mrsic will decide to sacrifice the game against Efes to keep his players as well-rested as possible. Efes need points, but after PAO beat Kuban yesterday, their chances of reaching QFs dropped significantly

Lokomotiv's wins over Panathianikos yesterday left Efes with not room for any further slips. The Greek side went 7-4 and Efes are 4-6. If the Turks win today, they will go 5-6 but still, it will be very tough to catch up for Panathianikos, even though Panathinaikos have to go to Istanbul in the last round. But, they are to face Cedevita home one round before that...

There is one other solution for Efes - they could get past Zvezda who are 6-4 and play Unicaja in Malaga today. But, Efes' head-to-head record with Zvezda isn't good and the Serbian side would have to go on and lose everything until the end, while Efes would need to win all of their games to get past them. In other words, a lot of things have to fall into place for Ivkovic to see him side in the QFs.

- This is our fourth meeting with Cedevita this season. We won once and lost twice. We know they have a good, balanced game. We cannot forget that they are on a 6-game losing run in EL. But, they were in a similar situation in the first stage and still beat us in Istanbul. We need to game control, a lot of focus and I expect my team to win - coach Ivkovic.

Efes had 4 straight defeats in EL as well before meeting Darussafaka in the last round. They are without a home win in EL for over two months, having lost to Fenerbahce and Lokomotiv Kuban. The last defeat could prove to be crucial. 

- Bilan and Pullen are their top players. I believe Bilan will attack through low post, while Pullen will look for pick and one-on-one game. They beat us twice in the season and that will motivated them today. They've had some bad periods before meeting us and they'll try and get out of a bad period today as well. We need to win this to hold onto our chances of reaching playoffs - Saric said. His team will be without Diebler today, which means Osman will get more time on the floor. Euroleague official site reports that Balbay will be out as well. 

Krstic' comeback is nearing and he could allegedly play against Fener and Panathianikos in EL. Ivkovic and his team will make the final decision, of course.

The ABA league semifinal series against Zvezda is obviously a priority for Cedevita at the moment. The team from Belgrade have a 1-0 lead after the home win in overtime. Cedevita need to win in Zagreb next week to force the third game which would decide everything. The trip to Istanbul couldn't not have come in a more unfortunate moment for them. 

The Croatian team played Efes three times this season already. They won in Istanbul in the first stage, then lost home and then recorded a Top 16 win home. Playing Efes clearly suits them but the task will be tough today. This is much more important for Efes, they are in the race for the QFs, while Cedevita stand no chance of getting through. 

- We stand no chance getting through no matter the result in Istanbul. This is the first such game for us this season. The timing is bad as well because we're playing Euroleague just three days after ABA League for the first time this season. We used a lot of energy in Belgrade and we need to see how we'll do in Istanbul - Cedevita's coach Mrsic said. 

Cedevita had Zvezda on their knees and had the lead almost throughout the whole game. They had the last attack as well with 17 seconds left on the clock. However, Pulled took the shot too early and the game went into overtime. He was Cedevita's top player with 24 points, while center Bilan added 20 points and forward White 16. 

Cedevita were without Walker in that game. He's going to miss this one in Istanbul with the same injury, which means Arapovic will get quite a lot of minutes, just like Zganec, who could get put at position 4. White played that position against Zvezda so that's another option.

Cedevita beat both Efes and Darussfaka in Istanbul this season but the task they're faced with now is much tougher. They are focused on the ABA League which they have to win next week. It will be interesting to see whether Mrsic will decide to sacrifice the game against Efes to keep his players as well-rested as possible for Tuesday.
