Lopez has a 4-11 score on this tournament. He hasn't won a single set in last three years and he played against the players outside of Top 40. This poor score is no coincidence as the conditions here certainly don't suit him. A high bounce nullifies the effect of his backhand slice, which he uses quite often. Sela already has more ATP wins than he had in the entire last season. He got 2 ATP quarter-finals in different conditions and he should give the Spaniard a hard time here. I wouldn't be surprised if Lopez won but I decided to go for the handicap in case of a thriller where mental strength can play a vital role. Details

Hewitt's score at Indian Wells is 29-12. Truth be told, the best of his results are from the past, but last year he reached third round. Although he had problems with his shoulder over the past month, those were weaker tournaments where he is much more cautious. At the start of this season he pointed out once again that he is interested only in the biggest tournaments and the Davis Cup, and this is the first Series 1000 tournament this season and one where he's had the most success. Ebden is a Top 100 player only because of challenger tournaments, and he allows the opponents too much on his second serve, which a return player such as Hewitt must take advantage of. Last year Hewitt easily beat his compatriot, and now Ebden's confidence is much lower. In Acapulco he lost eight consecutive games, the math before that he made 15 double serve errors, and Hewitt should win this in the handicap. Details

Lorenzi usually doesn't play in the ATP qualifiers. He plays if he gets an invitation for the main draw or he skips the tournament. I think he is right to believe in his game. He has played the first ATP finals in his career and he is playing very well. Delbonis beat him in the finals but the Italian didn't seem too tired. He is an experienced player who usually beats players better than him and he is definitely better than Menendez. The Spaniard was in India, he didn't make anything noteworthy in the context of this match. The odds are this high due to Lorenzi's transition to hard court, but Indian Wells is clay hard court due to rough surface and desert-like conditions. The Italian has the momentum and it should be used. Details

Taro Daniel is the new Asian power. Interestingly, he prefers playing on clay, but can do other surfaces too. He's been an interesting name from the start of the season. At Vina del Mar he reached the quarterfinal from the qualifiers, as his first appearance in the main draw. He beat Bellucci and Delbonis, and not by accident. He left for Europe last week, and left a good impression indoors as well. He lost in two tie-breakers to Gombos, who later on went to the final. He won two matches in the qualifiers and ATP did not feature a piece on him just for fun. He will quickly rise up the ATP ladder, I have no doubt, as he doesn't favor conditions. Clezar is a clay player. He was invited to few home tournaments over the last few weeks but failed to perform well. He has lost three matches in a row, his confidence is certainly not very high. Daniel is much more of a potential, and is still under the radar. He will not have these kinds of odds for much longer. Details

Last year Lajović scored over 50 wins in challengers and ATP qualifiers. He booked his first ATP quarterfinal three years ago, but he became a serious player only last season. This season he went through the Australian Open qualifiers, scored his first Grand Slam victory and secured his Top 100 status over the last month. He is a made player now. Kokkinakis is a wonder as the Australians made him into one, the same way the Americans make wonders of their young players. Remember, he is 17, and he skipped a few "grades" in tennis. He beat Sijsling in Australia, primarily because the Dutchman couldn't cope with the heat and pressure. Even his own selector said he plays poorly when it's hot. The Australian then lost five games in a row. Last week he lost to Falla in two, and the Colombian forfeited a match prior to that and the one day after. He played while injured and still beat the 'kid'. I have no reason to trust Kokkinakis, as he will score two winners, and then make three unforced errors. Lajović went through the process, he doesn't give away points and is tough in rallies. He is much more experienced, and a bigger favorite than the odds suggest. Details

As much as he was difficult to watch when he's not doing well, he's impressive when he's in form and he hasn't been in form this good for a long time. He allowed Fognini to take only two points, he won eight games in a row against Almagro and beat Ferrer in two sets after Ferrer's run of eight wins. He showed here that this was no coincidence with three wins without losing a set. Anderson also played in the finals last week but in a much weaker competition. He beat the qualifier here and a completely disorganized Querrey. He was heading for a defeat yesterday but Ferrer got injured and coudln't play. He tried a few games and then forfeited. The Ukrainian has left a much better impression and his philosophy is simple. When he's playing poorly, he can lose against anyone, but when he's in this kind of form, Anderson should not be a problem for him. He had a good preparation for this match yesterday against Karlović. He handled that one with not mistake and could dominate here. There are so many options to choose from and the odds are so high as both players have a similar run, but only in terms of wins. Delray Beach is like a challenger in comparison to Acapulco and I see no reason while Dolgopolov should stop here. As a matter of fact, he won the only head-to-head played last year. Anderson had as much as 14 break chances then. Not only did he not lose in to sets but he didn't get a point in the tie-break. So, if he didn't take a set then... Details

Some players get into a major crisis but never lose their potential, you just have to wait for them. Klizan showed signs of waking up last week and he is definitely awake these days. The indoor conditions and high altitude definitely suit him; after all, the only title that he's won was an indoors tournament. This may be indoor clay but it's still very fast. His fluctuations are decreasing and he is starting to remind us why he was in the Top 30 last year. Bellucci has won four matches in two wees and this is his second quarter-final match, but he's struggling. He has played five three-set matches in a row and has had too many ups and downs. He gave Haider too many chances yesterday and that player is not an ATP level material. The Austrian could have even won, and Belucci said himself that Klizan is much more dangerous. He also said something else. The Slovakian player has an aggressive style and he needs confidence to play like that. He got it in last few days and he is the favorite here in my opinion. The Brazilian has complained about physical problems, which is no wonder considering the number of long matches and I have no doubts this will be his excuse in case he loses. However, I will go for a safer option with a handicap. I can't rule out the possibility of a third set and this could be useful then. I also recommend a clear win for a slightly smaller stake. If we disregard the first tournament of the season and the Australian Open, Garcia-Lopez has 8 overs for this margin. Seven of those ended in the third set. This is no wonder as the Spaniard has shown many fluctuations, especially in terms of motivation, while the last two defeats showed lack of confidence. Dutra Silva is out of Top 100 due to knee problems. He forced and lost but he go through the three rounds of qualifications here. The conditions are very fast due to altitude, which speaks in favor of this bet. I don't see the Spaniard as the favorite here, especially as he has to adapt to the new conditions after playing on classic clay. In any case, this can go through in to sets, even though Garcia-Lopez's almost every match turns into a drama. Details

Tigre Hank has only two matches this season - defeat in Davis Cup at a domestic challenger last week. He is a young player who used to attend one of the best tennis academies but he gave it up when money ran out. In other words, no agency saw him as a talent. He took a two-year break and got back into tennis last season. He has never gotten a challenger win in his career and he got and additional invitation here. Querrey has five defeats in a row and a lack of confidence so this margin is a results of that. Regardless of this negative run, he could go through without too much trouble here as the difference in quality is huge. Just to compare, the Mexican has lost matches and got only 3-4 game in last three futures against players that are not in Top 250. Even with a below par performance, Querrey has to beat this opponent convincingly. Considering his crisis, I doubt he will have a weak start of the match. This could go through with a single break per set, but I would be surprised if he didn't win one set by a higher margin. Details

This is the best period in Čilić's career, which he confirmed. Not because this is the third finals in three weeks but because he has been consistently playing aggressive tennis. He hasn't lost a single set here; after toying with the opponents in the first few matches, he gave Isner no break chances. He was down by 0-3 in the tie-break and then won five points in a row. That's how mentally strong he is at the moment and he is not shying away from that in his statements. He even got more aces than Isner. Anderson is playing his first tournament since Australia. Smyczek and Matosevic took a set against him and nervous Johnson gave him many freebies in the first semi-finals of his career. Čilić has never had this momentum nor has he ever played so consistently match after match. I don't think Anderson can stop him, especially as he lacks experience from bi matches. Čilić has three wins against the South African, he doesn't allow much on his serve and he will conclude this period with another title. Considering his serve and return this week, he can cover this handicap in three sets without too much trouble. Anderson is not playing so poorly but Marin is on a high. So, a win for Čilić by 3 or more points. Details

Isner is not himself. He has won two matches in the tie-break of the third set and he played against players whose serve is not their advantage. Williams is there and there won't be many chances to get a break. Especially as he got his first serve in on a regular basis yesterday and that is crucial against Isner. On other hand, Isner has the experience and I believe he will find a way to win somehow. But just as usual, getting those few crucial points, which should not put this margin into question. Details

Understandably, I was skeptical towards Čilić coming here after two European indoor tournaments but I have no doubts anymore. Even though he had the worst transition, he has left the best impression in two matches here. He won both of them routinely, even when he was down by 3-0 against Becker in the second set. His serve has been convincing,he is playing aggressively and Ivanišević has met with him in Delray Beach and you can see the confidence is stronger than fatigue. Gabashvili got here because of Nishikori's forfeit, having lost his serve six times in the round before that. Since Gabashvili offers many open options on his serve and is prone to errors and Marin has been serving great lately, I expect a similar match like against Harrison. So, a break per set without too much trouble on his serve. Details

Yesterday Karlović beat Groth with one break. Both held their serve confidently in the first set, with Karlović allowing only one break point, but the set went to tie breakers. Many players complain that it's difficult to get your rhythm after coming from indoors, which is definitely a minus for Ivo. He may be tired, but I don't believe that will influence his serve. Anderson played his first match after Australia yesterday. Smyczek took a set, but the South African regularly got his return chances as Smyczek is not the classic American, after all, Ferrer is his idol. I'm expecting this to go the usual way, which is lack of return rhythm and easy serve games to the tie-break. The alternative is over 10 games in the first set and a tie break of the first set. Isner hasn't played since Australia and he admitted he hasn't trained to much. It is well known that 1st rounds are his biggest problems, regardless of the opponent. He gets by using his serve, and it will probably be his saving grace today, but it won't be easy. In last 10 tournaments, he went over this margin on 8 first round matches, and he had all sorts of opponents. Russel had a very good performance last week, he said he was happy with his game and Nishikori was the only player able to stop him. Even though he lost the last match against Isner with some conviction, he took the last one into the third set. He will have a chance to do more here. Details

Groth lost the last round of qualifications yesterday but he should have won. He did great on the return and it showed his improvement this season, but his serve remains his best weapon as he got almost 20 aces. Karlović reached the finals without losing his serve last week. Nishikori was the deserved winner then but even he barely got a single break. I expect bombardment from both ends here. Karlović would usually have an advantage on account of his form, but switching from indoors to windy conditions can be tricky. That's why a handicap on the Australian is also a good option, but I chose to take this safer one. I expected the margin to be 26 so this is a better pick. Details

Monaco is so deep in crisis that there are rumors of him ending his career. Not long ago he was fighting for Top 10, and now he has not won a match in almost half a year. He had a few matches both this and last year where he served for the first set, and then lost. He did the same in his last one, only he won the tie-break. That did not help either, and Ramos is a solid draw at this moment. Zeballos dropped out of the Top 100, which for him means less pressure, as he defended the title in Chile, which he is not used to. Last week he put up a solid fight vs Almagro. The Spaniard managed to get out by serving well, which will not be the case with Monaco, who is definitely not a favorite, as half a year without a win leaves a mark. He is very familiar with Zeballos, they often train together, especially in the Davis Cup. He won all three of their matches so far without losing a set, but the last one had two "overtimes" (7-6, 7-5). This one will not be easy either, if he can win at all. Either way, they should go over this margin. Details

We have been hearing positive stories from Giraldo since the season started. Despite getting only one win on hard court, he claimed he has never been better prepared for the season. He proved that in last two weeks as he got four wins and was defeated by Mayer, who reached the first ATP finals, and Ferrer last week. He had the chance to win the second set but missed the serve when he was up by 6-5. Bellucci is in trouble once again as he has only gotten a single ATP win, and that one was through forfeit. He had a convincign defeat two weeks ago against Daniel, the Japanese who played the first ATP match of his career. He said after the defeat that he didn't know what had happened and then he had to forfeit the match in the qualifiers last week due to heat. The Brazilian tends to promise a lot and then admit problems after the match. It was the case in Sao Paolo last year at another domestic tournament. He lost against Volandri with such conviction that the fans booed him. He later criticized the audience and it got a lot of media coverage. He late apologized as he plays under a lot of pressure at home. Of course, he got the invitation here but he will have a hard time winning. He has only won two out of last 10 ATP matches. The mentioned forfeit from Reister and Rosol, who can lose against anyone with his aggressive style. This means almost an entire year without a solid win. Giraldo has won three out of last four matches. He plays well, wins and he doesn't lack optimism, even after missing the chance against Ferrer. I don't know Bellucci can rely on - he doesn't have the form, the results and he is often poor at home. It is enough to remember last year when he barely beat Clezar and lost against Volandri and he even got eliminated early when the organizers pushed him into Challenger Masters played in Brazil. He was the best ranked player in the draw twice and then lost and blamed in on the pressure. I expect the same after this match, bearing in mind that he is facing strong and motivated opponent, while he has a forfeit and a defeat against an outsider from last two matches. Details

Karlovic hadn't lost a service in four matches, and had break-balls in only one. When he's like that, he's dangerous even for those who have a better return than Nishikori. The Japanese was helpless in the Davis Cup. His return wasn't the only thing he struggled with. Karlovic attacked his every second service, which isn't that great to begin with, and chip and charge proved to be a dangerous combination for the Japanese. I've been thinking long about whether to go for Karlovic's win. I think he has it all, but I'll go for a safer bet because I think this is an equal match. This handicap covers the possibility of a defeat in two tie-breaks, and Karlovic can get a break here. Japanese not that much. Details

Klizan is a player who depends on self-confidence, and he lacks that today. True, he got through to the third round of the Australian Open, but how? He was a lucky loser, Isner forfeited against him, and then he defeated a qualifier. We were just about to start thinking his confidence will be back, and then he lost against Robert without winning one set. He was a favorite in that match. After that, he only played Davis Cup. He struggled against Jusk in five sets on the home court. He struggled yesterday, too. Hocevar took the set from him, and then the service five times. The Slovakian only had 39% points won on the second service, and seven doubles. The Brazilian played his first match out of the futures this season. Alund defeated Haider yesterday, Haider spent two weeks in South America. The Argentinian went through the qualifications these last two weeks. He defeated Ramos in the main lot. He's uncomfortable on the clay and will punish every mistake Klizan makes. The Slovakian has fewer matches, a lack of confidence and he gives away too much when he's like that. He had a good lot yesterday. Today, he's playing against a clay native who has the rhythm, experience and the game to take advantage of all Klizan's flaws. Details
