A bet on Willhill is for two or more tie-breaks. This is definitely not a blind shot. The last match between Lu and Karlovic ended in three tie-breaks, and nobody got a break in the whole match. Lu played with Isner in the Auckland finals at the beginning of the season. He saved all 10 break balls and then lost in two tie-breaks. It's a simple story. He doesn't have the return for the services this high because the balls come under impossible angles. He's only 180cm tall, and he doesn't have enough strength to come into the court and return the ball going up. On the other hand, he knows how to hold the service because he's a technician and he uses tall players' flaws with low flat balls. In normal circumstances, I'd take the first set tie-break, but this sounds like a new tie-break thriller. They had it in Queens, they can have it here. Karlovic played two tie-breaks yesterday, and it all points out to the same going on today. Maybe even all three. Details

The bookmakers reacted, but not enough. Herbert won in two tie-breaks yesterday, with one lost service. He did double errors again, but won 89% points on the first service, and added 13 aces. Muller also played two tie-breaks. There was no break-balls in his match. He got impressive 49/53 points on the first service, but miserable 20% on the return. That's why margin being a bit higher doesn't have any influence on the story, only on the stakes. Details

Lopez and Karlovic played the first set with no break points yesterday. Karlovic would have probably played the tie break in the first round's first set as well had it not been for Ebden who gave him the break after a double fault. Sock is well experienced in playing the tall servers and he's not the type to get scared of many aces and winners. He beat Raonc here last year, and played Isner twice in the last two years. He lost both of those matches, but played three tie breaks in them. Willhil are offering the no-breaks in the first set bet, at what I believe are too highly set odds. The alternative to this are the 10,5 games over or the tie break in the first set at the lower odds. Details

Herbert recorded double digits in the number of aces and double faults in the first round's match. That is really not unusual, despite the fact he played his much weaker compatriot. He displaced some great serving in the second round, having recorded 27 aces with 87% of first serve points. But, he needed the thrid set tie break to win anyway. Copil is hitting even harder, but he's also better on clay. He has played 6 sets in two rounds here. He can score more that 20 aces per match, but returning the opponent's services indoors is not his strongsuit. I expect a tied match here, but keep in mind that these two can always get an already settled match complicated. Of course, when they are focused on serving, the tie break is quite a certain outcome of the match. Details

The home media call Olivetti the French Karlović. He reached the quarter-finals in Montpellier. He played two tie-breaks against Davydenko and younger Benneteau. This just proves that all matches are similar to him. He will win his serve games without too much trouble but he will also lose the return games. This didn't work in the first two rounds, but he played two tie-breaks. Now, he's facing Millot who was quite successful in Australia. He beat Krajinović and Rufin here, losing his serve only once in the process. Olivetti is a major over player that's why he will have a hard time repeating his success from the first two rounds when he only got 22 games. He is not that much of a favorite here as he was in those two matches. Details

Mertl likes faster conditions, and they are certainly present on this tournament. The experienced Czech has allowed only two break chances in the first two matches and he has won 80% on his first serve. Muller did alright on the return in his first two matches, above all expectations, but now he's facing a server who is very successful in arenas like this. After all, Muller played against a clay player in the second round. He got four breaks and then lost the set. They've already played once, it was six years ago and it ended with two tie-breaks. I wouldn't be surprised if we see a similar outcome today. Details

They have played against each other four times, and they had to play the third set every time. These two compatriots know each other very well and neither of the two will impose their rhythm until the end of the match. Harrison has lost both ATP's this season. He hasn't won a single set in those matches and still went over the margin. They played in the qualifications for Sydney this season and the tie-break in the third set decided the match. Harrison made use of more favorable circumstances yesterday (he beat the veteran who had played seven matches in Europe last week), while Bogomolov won the thriller against Querrey. Everything points to another long match, especially because of Harrison who plays in surges, which is a positive factor for this bet. Details

Almagro and Zeballos played twice last year. The Spaniard won both matches without a single break chance. It is well-known that Zeballos has problems with his return and he will be powerless against the best server on clay. After all, Gimeno beat the Argentine without losing the serve last week. Unlike Zeballos who was knocked out of Top 100 after losing the points in Chile last year, Almagro had every reason to be happy. Last week, he returned to tennis and almost beat Fognini who is brilliant on clay (19-1 score since Roland Garros). He played three matches and got into the rhythm and this is his tournament. Last year, he reached the semi-finals and covered this handicap in three matches. Two years before that, he reached the finals and the title. Everything points to a convincing win here. Details

There is no more difficult transition in tennis than going from indoor concrete to clay, especially when changing the continents. After Australia, Sousa played in Davis Cup in Slovenia and played to indoor matches, but we should also factor in some five days of training indoors. After that, he went to Montpellier, the fast French indoor arena where he reached Round 2. Even though the Portuguese is a clay player, he obviously doesn't think that way. He played his last clay tournament two weeks after Wimbledon. Berlocq has been in Buenos Aires for weeks. He has been preparing for Davis Cup as he knew he would have the major role. He crushed Seppi, then gave Fognini, who is in great form, a two-hour torture. This is the town where he lives and I know he will be particularly motivated. Sousa will need some time to adapt to clay while the Argentine has timed his form for these two weeks. That's why I decided to opt for Berlocq winning this with a handicap. Details

Bedene is being underestimate here. The Slovenian beat Zeballos here last year, he beat Nalbandian in Acaplco and then played a third-set tie-break against Fognini. He gave the Italian a hard time last week as well even though Fognini ended up winning the tournaments. Granllers played a match with two tie-breaks against Giraldo last week. Bedene is a proven clay player at the challenger level in Europe where the competition is stronger. He says he feels great and we believe him as he prepared for this part of the season. He rejected the Davis Cup invitation because of it. I believe he can get a set against the Spaniard but I will got for this margin as I expected it to be at last a game higher. Details

Matosevic reached the semi-finals here last season and had the momentum at the start of this one, but it all ended with another Grand Slam defeat. He hasn't played since Australian Open and this should affect his performance here. Vesely decided to continue with indoor tennis and it was probably because he practiced in the Davis Cup last weekend and there was no point going to South America without real clay preparations. The Czech still doesn't have the right indoor form but that's what I base this bet on. His flaw are his performances on the return in quick conditions. He has no problems with his serve as he is a player who got serves way above 200 km/h at the age of 17. He played four tie-breaks in three matches in Heilbronn and that arena was slower than this one. Matosevic reached the semi-finals here last year, but with 3 overs and I think he will struggle against a lefty. One extended set shouldn't be out of the question, bearing in mind the Australian is overrate as the favorite here. Details

The qualifying matches in Memphis were not that demanding and quite a few doubles players and less known names made their way into the tournament. Rajeev Ram is a favorite for the win here, there's no doubt about it, but he didn't deserve the margin to be set this low. I've been looking back at his pervious matches. He played matches at 18 games or more against Montogmeri, Roelofse, Nguyen, and Leite lately. Those were the matches in which he was also seen as the favorite for the win. Ram proved to be playing better as an underdog than as a favorite for the win. he proved it yesterday again when he played Moser 7-6, 6-3. Moser is a 37-year old doubles specialist. Grima-Ferrer is not even ranked. He didn't play since the end of 2012 due to an injury. He beat a doubles player here as well, but he was more convincing and Cermak is playing singles more often. That, of course, is not the key thing. The margin is set low, especially because Ram does not have that much power, and Memphis has one of the fastest surfaces. Supersport is offering the same margin, for those who do not have this option. Details

Stakhovsky defeated Hanescu in the Davis Cup last weekend. He lost the first set, then got into fights with the umpire, and then won 3-1. Rotterdam is one of the faster courts, and that doesn't suit the Romanian because of his return problems. It's the opposite with the Ukrainian, in his case the faster is better. He played great at the beginning of the season, was brilliant with his service-volley game in Sydney, and then he had injury issues. He complained about the lack of time to adapt in Zagreb, but he should prove that these are his conditions now. They are definitely not for the Romanian, it was just that the national player ranked outside the first 600 couldn't prove it yesterday. The Ukrainian will prove it. Details

Last weekend Kavčič won all three of his Davis Cup matches rather decisively. He is filled with confidence, keeps talking about great preparations and excellent form, and he is not the kind of player that just throws such words around. Last year he had a lot of criticism for his game. Sijsling did not open this season well. There were losses in matches where he could have won, and he finally started properly in Heilbronn. He had great serves that week, losing about 10 points on his serve per match, but not demolishing anyone. His return was the problem, and in his current situation Kavčič is a much more dangerous opponent than the ones Sijsling faced back then. Last year he played very well here, and has been complaining of poorer form now. I believe the Slovene can win here, but I don't want to risk it as this handicap looks like a big insurance. Details

The margin in this match is 26 games. That is a rare sight, but it's there for a reason. Brands and Karlović played five sets so far, four of which with tie breaks and one extended set. What makes this bet even stronger is the break-point statistic. Of the 64 games they played, there were only four break-points. One was converted by Karlović, but the figures clarify the direction this match should head in. Once we consider the statistics in those five sets, the odds even seem to high. To those who don't have Will Hill I'd suggest a tie-break in the first set, or an over at 10.5 games. Details

Lorenzi won all three prior matches vs the Columbian, not losing a set in any of them. The last match was two weeks ago, and he held an impressive first serve with 82% points won. It is exactly this kind of matches that have been keeping the Italian's ranking up for years, and last year he reached the quarterfinal in Vina del Mar. Gonzalez still hasn't won an ATP game in his career. He plays challengers very well, but this is another level. Confidence and experience favors Lorenzi, and the fact he won all three tie breaks they've played so far carries extra importance, clearly signaling he is mentally stronger, which can be crucial here. Gonzalez will have to wait a bit longer for his first ATP win. Details

Borna Čorić is the future of world tennis, there's no doubt. But, he was unlucky with his draw here. Berrer has played in the finals in Zagreb twice. He always plays his best tennis here and he showed that in the qualifiers. He stormed through three matches, losing only 1 serve in the process. Borna is playing his first match of the season while the German has 11 matches behind him. This alone is a huge advantage for the veteran player, but it's not crucial. Borna said that he wants to avoid Stepanek as his game doesn't suit him. The German has a somewhat similar style as he can finish the points forward and his backhand slice is tricky for most players. It was clear last year when Berrer gave him a lesson here. True, Borna is one year older but he is still 17. This is all good for his experience and Zagreb is the most successful tournament in Berrer's career. Taking all into consideration, I expect a convincing win by Berrer. Details

Ilhan is in Top 200 only because of his futures performances. He won six of them last year but all at home where he had no real competition. Indoor conditions were never his thing. Three years ago, he had a 1-10 score indoors and he played ATP tournaments quite often then. He barely survived against Lopez-Perez yesterday as he lost the first set, which was practically won, and then got away in the second. Teixeira lost a set, too, but he won the remaining two with some conviction. He can play both an offensive and defensive game and last season indoors, he beat players like Huta, Fischer, Beck, that is, the players who get lots of wins indoors. Details

There are often spots open for doubles players in the draw of the ATP qualifying matches. Kas is one of those players. He is 33-years-old and not ranked. Players like him could turn out to be tricky on a fast surface because of their serve and volley style, but the German will probably not be able to do that a lot on clay. He knocked out a 16-year-old yesterday, who is ranked outside of Top 1600, but he is now facing Bagnis. The Argentinian had close to 40 challenger wins on clay last year, and he's very close to Top 100. Of course, everything depends on his motivation, but he should be able to win within this margin. Two huge fighters on clay. Seppi is renowned for his five-set matches and he's had 9 such matches in last 5 Grand Slams. Berlocq accomplishes everything through hard work and it's not likely that he will dominate this in three sets. I expect another marathon with lots of turnarounds and I wouldn't be surprised if the Italian played another five-set match. In any case, this should go through after four sets. Details
