    Kudos to Olimija for the wins over Besiktas and Partizan, but I think they don't stand a chance here. They used the best of what was a very bad night for Besiktas, they beat Partizan who look like a ruined army, but now they will be playing against a team who are definitely worth a fight for the Euroliga quarter-finals. We mustn't forget that Olimpija lost with 25 difference against Zvezda in Belgrade. Khimki entered the season well-prepared, motivated and ready to make up for what they've missed last season - they're the favorite here. The empty arena goes hand in hand with that theory and I think Olimpija doesn't stand a chance here The Russian team have approached each match very seriously, especially in the Eurocup which we witnessed last season when they convincingly won in away games in Turkey and Israel, even when the matches weren't as significant. Kurtinaitis can finally count on all of his players, he has the quality and the width on all of the position and I expect Khimki to easily win with a two-digit difference.     Third game at Paris in a row for me, just because I think they are worth a lot. The covered the counter-handicap in Zaragoza, the bet with Ortheza didn't work out, but I expect a good response from them today. Beugnot is angry after three consecutive defeats and I expect them do their absolute best here. Regianna are struggling with a number of problems and only seven player they can really count on. They go to France after the defeat to Cremona home but I don't think they will be able to make amends today. They struggle with efficiency and almost never score over 70 points, which makes the team under at Reggiana a good option, especially after Beugnot criticized his defense after the Orthez defeat. It is, however, possible that Paris will try and set up a faster pace to break opponent's defense and that makes the handicap a safer option. The French and their motivation for Eurocup is never a certain thing, but Beugnot asked his players to do their very best today. They have a very tough game over the weekend in Dijon and facing Dijon on a four-game losing run would not leave them with much confidence. That is another reason for them to do their absolute best, just like they did as they beat Nanterre in the city derby. Besides, Beugnot said that their goal is the Eurocup Top 32, and after the defeat to Zaragoza, this game has turned into one of the most important meetings for the French team. Schilb, Ford, Green and Lang have huge offense potential that is more than capable of putting up a fight, maybe even to dominate over the Italians.     I think a lot of points will be scored in this game, and since I believe Enisej to be underrated, the team over at the visiting team seems like the best choice. The Siberian team are offense oriented and one of the fastest-pace teams in the league. They were limited to less than 74 points in only one out of 20 games last season, but even then stayed over this margin (71). With an even greater potential this season, and despite the two defeats in the first three games, they managed to score at least 73 in all of those three.

    CSKA opened the season well, and with a very tough schedule this week, I expect them to not give their best in this game. Besides, Itoudis can't count on his three players, and this is a great opportunity for him to give the eight players who took on Alba a break. Enisej have the player that can threaten the opponent and are definitely worth more.

    Counter-handicap, with a margin set quite high, is a good option as well, but CSKA are a tricky team to bet on, since they have the capacity to destroy any team home. Teodisic now has a lot more freedom to play fast transition and to try and win as many 'easy' point as possible. There's always the possibility that the game will be settled by half time. The margin at Enisej is definitely two low, with the counter-handicap as a good option as well. Details

    This is an incredible underestimation of Avtodor. Everyone knows Nymburk have problems when facing Russian teams, and the odds are set as if Kalev are coming as guests. Hats off to Nymburk for defeating Astana, but that was the first real game of the season for the Kazakh team and you could see they didn't have the right rhythm. Nymburk had a really tough schedule, four games in seven days, and even though they spared the main players two days ago, it definitely won't be simple for them. They'll have a home game against Oldenburg in Eurocup in two days already, one of the key games for the placement to the second round, and Kemzura would definitely take any win here. Last season, Nymburk won five games in the VTB League, only one against a Russian team, and in the last round against Spartak, by 10 points. It was an irrelevant game where Spartak already secured the playoffs.

    Saratov are underestimated, and they're the best team of Superleague last season, a team who were defeated by Himki in the Cup twice, with -7 and -10, at the time when Himki had 30 wins in a row and played the best basketball of the season. They kept the Fortson- Klimenko duo this summer, brought Chappell and a few other good players, and I'd say they have bigger chances to get placed to the playoffs than Nymburk. The odds are completely missed here, Saratov were supposed to win in Kazanje, their inexperience and the fall in the last minutes cost them. Other than that, Saratov had 30% three-pointer shot in that game. Fortson was far from his real self, which only confirms this team's potential when they're in their true form. I wouldn't be surprised one bit if Saratov win in Czech, it's a duel between two rivals for the playoffs, and this margin is at least four points too high. Details

    According to statistics, this margin is more than justified. Bisons played games at 169, 195, and 178, and Minsk on 190 and 148. But, this is a typical example of how statistic can be misleading. The Bisons played against three strong Russian teams who dominated physically, so Gibson couldn't do anything else but to try to speed the game up to the max and jeopardize the opponent like that. However, this is a completely different story. Minsk's centers are all shorter than 210 cm, and the Bisons can do much better with the rebounds, so no point in rushing. On the other hand, their strength is questionable. They played in Krasnojarsk on Wednesday, concluding the exhausting Russian tour, came back from Siberia, 5 000 km away, and less than 24 hours ago, they played a championship game where they were easily defeated and where Gibson didn't spare the leaders. It's really hard to expect them to run like crazy, and there's no need for it, either. Besides, the Bisons proved to be a much stronger team when playing at home, as shown in the home games for Eurocup last season. They ended the games at 125 (Neptunas), 121 (Bešiktaš), 147 (Spartak), 148 (Radnički), and 160 (Panionios in an irrelevant game of the last round). Also keep in mind that Neptunas and Radnički are very fast teams whose games often ended at 170, 180, and even more points. I expect the Bisons to keep those, and even much lower numbers.
    As for Minsk, the game against Himki is no measure, Kurtinaitis's team is untouchable now, and Minsk simply didn't have a solution. The game turned into a revue pretty quick, and ended at 190 points. We heard statements that the plan was to limit Himki to 70 points, and that's the philosophy of the game Krivonos aim for. That's how Minsk played in his first "mandate", and that's how they won in Samara. The plan worked perfectly, Minsk limited the Russian team to only 60 points in 35 minutes, and if they didn't stumble in the final moments, they'd have conceded under 70 and won the game. That's the approach we can expect today, too. Minsk never went over this margin in eight games in the pre-season so far, and I expect this game to have fewer points. Details

    Strasbourg played the worst game of the season a few days ago in Germany, worst than the one against ASVEL for the Euroleague qualifications, but managed to win thanks to their back shot and luck in the last seconds. That win definitely boosted their self-confidence, Strasbourg are rushing and I don't think Dijon can stop them. Borg's team played two great games in a row after being completed, and whoever followed that club this and the last season, saw they're the completely different in home and away games. Today, they'll be guests against the very strong Starsbourg who are the strongest team of the league next to Limoges, and who play the Euroleague level lead by Collet, so I don't think they'll be able to stop them. They'll have big problems with Strasbourg's great defense, and I don't think they'll be able to play all 40 minutes in the same rhythm, which they have to do if they want to keep up. Strasbourg's roster has width this season, all the players play important roles, and what's most important, none of them play many minutes so they have time to regenerate. The best example is the match in Germany where Strasbourg were close to defeat, but only Campbell (28 minutes) played over 25 minutes. All the players got to the scorer list, and that versatility is something Dijon's defense will hardly find an answer to. Strasbourg crushed their opponents with their rhythm in the last weeks, never gave in, even when they solved their games till the half-time (Orleans, Orchesien, Pau Orthez), and this is their first home game after 20 days, the second one in the season, and the audience will be really interested. In the last seasons, they easily defeated Dijon here (+11, +18, +14), and I expect something similar today. Details

    The games between these great rivals are always charged with special emotions and usually very fierce. The game today should be no different. Both teams have been relying on the defense so far, which is what I expect today - the defenses preventing high efficiency. Aris played Kifisija in the Cup and 142 points scored in that game are more than what we could have hoped for. The under didn't happen only because 8 points were scored in the last 30 seconds of the game. Aris didn't have a good first half in the Panelefsiniakos game, having conceded 42 points in the first half. But, they managed to make a comeback in the second half. They now meet PAOK after a break and home. They limited Banvit to 48 and CSKA to 59 point there in preseason. Since they lost point guard Thomas, Prifitis should put extra focus on good defense performance today.

    Markopoulos has been defense-oriented from the start, as they results suggest. They limited Dramas to only 63 points, the offense-oriented Rethymno to 69 (69-69 in the end), and Karsiyaka to 66 (66-66) a few days ago. They are tired after such tough games and over time, but they will definitely find strength for this game, which I don't expect to be fast-paced. I think 60-65 points will be scored today and this margin is set too high. Aris and PAOK met three times last season, and 134, 136, and 105 points were scored in 40 minutes. They are even more defense-oriented this year and I expect a battle for each points on the court today. Details

    Last season these teams played three matches which ended at 140 (with extra time), 149, and 105 points. The rosters may have changed but the coaches and focus have not. Nancy still base everything on defense, especially at home, where they are able to limit any team in the league to way under 170 points. Offensively speaking, they have some more power, but Nanterre have also improved on defense over last season. Judging from previous matches, this margin is close to right, but we need to look at the important matches. Nancy went over when trashing Bourg and Gravelies, while they played 154 with the very quick Nymburk, with a penalty finish and 89 points in the second half. In the Limoges match, similar to what I expect today, they played at 131 points, while the away match against the offensively focused Reims saw them at 145. The same goes for Nanterre, who scored 90 against the offensively focused Rouen, Chalon and Cholet who all have porous defenses, going way above this margin. We saw the outcome of matches against strong teams with good defense, in important games, such as against Limoges and Paris, where the outcomes were at 124 and 131 point. Both teams mostly stayed under in the preparation period matches, even when facing each other, where Nancy won 77-71. Compared to that match Nancy will have Pietrus, who makes Weisz's team much stronger defensively. Nancy are also eager to get payback for the three defeats they suffered last season, including the Cup one, so I expect them to be full out aggressive. The margin is too high by about 3-4 points in my opinion, due to effective blowout games, but this will not be the case today. I expect a tough game, and would not be surprised if it were to stay under 140 points. Details

    I think the odds here are completely off, with Paris being way to underrated. They met Nanterre (currently better than Zaragoza) a few ago and won by 11 points with the odds at their win set to 2.60. They have more than a good team and definitely stand a chance against Zaragoza today. I think the odds at home team's win should be around 1.5-1.6, and the handicap margin at -3.5. Zaragoza opened the season troubled with numerous problems, which their two opening games only went to prove. She lost the home game to Joventut, managed to salvage the already lost game in the Canary Islands, and do not deserve the be the favorite here. They will struggle to get in the Spanish league play-off, and now face one of the candidates for the French championship title. Zaragoza would not have been the favorite against most of the Spanish teams, which is, again, why I believe these odds to be completely off. Paris did lose to Gravelines, but they beat Nanterre away, which will serve them as additional motivation. Them winning in Spain would come as no surprise for me, but I sincerely doubt they will lose by 10 or more points. Details

    Strasbourg are doing great in the first part of the season and I think they're a great favorite for winning in Germany. They dealt with all their rivals so far, except with the powerful ASVEL, swiftly, beating Riga by 30 points, and taking a 20 lead till half time with Orleans and Orthez. Their defense is extremely powerful, rarely allowing the rivals to score more than 60 goals. I think they're the heavy favorite here, while Bonn, who recorded only one win in the first four German championship games, won't have a say in this game if Strasbourg do as they did so far. I think the odds set here are way off. Eurocup is Strasbourg's main goal this season, but they might even be at Euroleague level. I think 1.40 at Strasbourg has great value at this moment. Details

    The margin might seem high, but I think this will be blowout. Himki have an even stronger team than last year when they had 30 wins in a row. Four of their last five matches against Riga were above this margin, with the lead always between 18 and 23 points. Apart from Himki being stronger, Riga are much weaker now, to the point they're struggling with national away matches. After a solid start in the VTB league, abusing Enisey's struggle int he first match, they did Oktjabr on weekend, but away matches are a different world. The best indicator of how bad Riga are do is the fact they lost to Strasbourg during the Eurolague qualifiers, on neutral ground, by 29 points.

    Himki are stronger and more ruthless, Kurtinaitis wants full throttle commitment all the time, and we already mentioned the depth of his roster. Even after they decide the match, the bench can keep up the same rhythm, which cannot be said for Riga. Against Avtodor, stronger than Riga, Himki got to +33 after three periods, and against Minsk, at Riga's level, 25 by halftime. I expect Himki will want to send a message here before the VTB match on Sunday, to show Riga have nothing to find here. They also want to avoid the last year's scenario of losing in the first round of the Eurocup. No news of Augustine or Davis coming back, but Himki did great even without them, so they'd be just a bonus. Himki will cover this handicap by halftime, Riga has nothing to parry them with. Details

    Nenterre are way too underrated here. I said before that I don't expect Cholet to record great results this year. They will struggle against the greatest teams, with Nanterre definitely being among the best ones, and keen to get back to top French basketball. They destroyed Limoges and Chalon, with their bad offense performance against Paris as an exception. They play Nancy away on Friday. Getting there on a 1-2 record would be very bad, and despite this being only the begging of the season, they cannot afford to fall behind. The visitors are the better team, and besides, they managed to win all 4 head-to-head games with Cholet the last two seasons. I think they will dominate in rebound today and I definitely expect less turnovers since that is what destroyed them in the Paris game. They have so far managed to limit offenses of the top French teams, as the total number of points in their previous games suggest. They took advantage of Dijon's injuries problems in the season opener, but as the real tests came, Cholet lost chance of doing successfully. ASVEL beat them over the weekend easily despite having to do without their two key players. No one at Nanterre is injured and I expect their response following the poor performance in the city derby.     The odds were at 1.07 for Samara's win, with the handicap set at -13.5, which turned out to be a mistake. As the time went by, the margin plummeted to the much more realistic -10.5. It still has value though (2-3 points). At the same time, the total points margin went up, which I don't understand. The only explanation for it are both teams' opening games that went at 180 points (consequence of their respective opponents' game). Nyburk's game is fast-pace, but their defense horrible. Minsk could not cope with Himki's offense (not many teams in the league can). What is more interesting to me than numbers is what Kudrjavcev said after the game. He was not happy with the team not sticking to what was planned (limiting the opponent to 70 points). That says a lot about what can expect from Minsk this season, and only goes to confirm their preseason performances. Their games were under 160 points in all of the eight games this season, going over this margin only against Zenit and Almaty. Defense is what they will build everything else around, since the offense doesn't have that much potential. They need more time together, just like Samara who changed the whole team in preseason and need a few weeks to fin rhythm. As for the preseason, their games were all well under the margin. Having lost a lot of offense potential over the summer, they turn to defense as well. Given the opening games, I think this margin is set way too high. Details

    Lokomotiv look really, really well at the beginning of the season and definitely have a chance to jeopardize the Muscovites. When Bazarevič came, and other few good players, Lokomotiv gained a lot offensievly and scored almost 200 points in the first two games. It's clear that Nymburk and Bisons aren't close to CSKA, but I think this margin is way too low. I see this match primarily on a bigger number of points, both have loads of offensive potential, and love fast game and transition. Itoudis left Teodosic to lead the game, and we know what it looks like when the Serbian point guard directs it. He's fantastic in the offense, but not that good in the defense and Lokomotiv will know how to use that. Brown and Hendrix are great athletes, they can win easy points with the transition, and we don't have to question their motives. CSKA gave them a few hard hits last seasons, and this is a great chance for Lokomotiv. I think with the guests' injury problems, they have a real good chance to win, and even if they lose, I don't see them under this margin. Details

    The very end of the preview is telling. Bisons fired of incredible 80 attempts from the field against CSKA, which is roughly 2 per minute, something rarely seen in the VTB league. This is caused by the fact they have a physically weaker roster and are using speed to stay competitive. After -29 in Moscow, coach Gibson will be using the same approach in Kazan as well. He pointed out that they should play a positional game only when forced to do so, and I once again expect an attractive match. UNICS are preparing for the Euroleague, which explains the torture they had against Avtodor, although we did say in the preview that the Saratov team will be playing an important role this season. UNICS managed to get serious in time, scoring 33 points in the last quarter and winning in the end, scoring a total of 81 points with just 43% of shots made and 8 missed free throws. Jerrells and Langford brought even more life into the team and once they manage to get properly tuned together UNICS will look really good. Considering the somewhat poor performance they gave against Saratov, I expect them to go guns blazing from the very first minute. They are superior compared to Bisons and I expect the match to be decided in the first half, just like CSKA did against the Finns. This would bring a more relaxed, faster match in the second period and I expect UNICS at over 90, perhaps even a 100 points. Lokomotiv scored 114 against Kalev, 108 against Himki Minsk, the series might continue. An overall under is also a good option, but I don't want to depend on the Bisons scoring. UNICS are capable of limiting them to 60 or even less, so I see this as a much better option. Details

    Reims did have the best defense in the second division last season, but the top league is a whole other thing. 196 and 173 points were scored in their two opening games, and Chalon only confirmed once again that no one will take them seriously if they keep on playing such poor defense. Reims scored 84 against Paris (50 inn the first half before Paris managed to get their bearings). Paris got better in the second half, having recorded only 34 goals, and making a comeback. Besides, Reims played Dijon in the Cup away, and lost 66-63. I think that will be the case today too.

    Nancy are among the best defenses in the league, and their offense potential this year makes them on of the prime candidates for the title. Nancy had 12 preseason games to concede more than 78 points only in one of them, despite not being able to count on Pietrus, one of their two key defenders. In the three official games this season, Nancy conceded 75 points against the champions Limoges, and 68 to Gravelines and Bourg (they could have just as easily concede under 60 in the last two). They conceded more than 78 points in only one of their 15 games. They are well aware they cannot afford to allow Reims to unleash their offense potential, and I believe they would be able to do so.     The book makers still give Bourg more credit than they deserve. I decided to bet against them the first two rounds, and I intend to do it again today. Granted, they did quite well in the second division, but Pro A is at a much higher level. Besides, they struggle with injuries and Sarre has to do with only 8 players today. Bourg were completely outplayed in the first three games, standing no chance against Chalon and Nancy, and being 20 points down by half time in the Le Havre game. Chalon are far better than Le Havre, on a greater budget and with higher ambition. They want to reach the play off, with defeats against teams like Bourg preventing them from doing so last season. Turner is not on the team, but they managed to beat Reims anyway. They beat Bourg twice in the last month, and Bourg didn't have as many problems in those games as they do today. They struggle with efficiency, having never scored more than 77 points this season (pre-season included). Chalon are very good offense-wise - they're one of the top offenses in the league. I don't think Bourg will be able to limit their offense efficiency. They will have fan support, but they're far from the level Pro A demands, which is why I expect the visitors to win. Details

    Kifisia have had their most successful season ever, having ended it among the top five teams in Greece. Despite all the changes that happened on the team during the summer, coach Papatheodoru is still in charge, and with no plans of changing his goals. Kifisia are still well-experienced and won't rush into the unknown. Their games against the Greece teams, all of which ended with a small total number of points scored (Apollon 124, Dramas 132, Panelefsiniakos 110, Rethymno 128, with the exception of more offense-oriented team) only go to prove that. They are facing what is possibly the toughest team in the league today. The defense was the key aspect of Aris's last season's performances. They won the Nikos Galis Cup, having limited Banvit to 48 and CSKA to 59 points. 121 points were scored in their game with Dramas. The only exception in their record is the game with Lukoil, after which the coach criticized his team's defense performance. It was the only game in which they conceded more than 65 points. But, that won't be easy today since Aris struggle against good-quality tough teams. Coach Prifis says they're tired, which means they'll probably try and slow the pace down even more than usual. Kifisia like slow pace games as well, and since this is their first official game and not everything is organized at right level, they should do much better in defense than in offense. Defense is what both coaches are focusing on while preparing their teams. Since one of the two greatest Greek clubs will be knocked out today, and since Panonios struggle, this might be a perfect opportunity for both teams to get far in this competition. I therefore expect a big fight today. I think 130 or maybe even less points are bound to be scored in this game, and given all the circumstances, this margin has a great value. Details

    Flensburg struggle with efficiency quite a lot, not having scored more than 31 goals in any of the 13 official games they did this season. They scored more than 29 in only 2 of those 13. And their opponents were a colorful bunch starting with Brazilian Taubate, the teams from Qatar, and finally the German second tier Erlangen that conceded only 27 goals against Flensburg away. On the other hand, their defense is doing very well, except for that bad performance that got them destroyed in Denmark. They're better home, having conceded 23, 22, 17, and 21 goals home this season. They're more than capable of preventing Wisla from scoring a lot of goals. The Polish team have been focusing on their defense this season more, which resulted in only 47 goals scored in their head-to-head meeting with Besktas, and in 50 goals from their last championship game...They went to Barcelona to take on the Catalan team only three days ago and did quite well, limiting the opponent to only 30 goals. Not many teams are capable of that. Cadenas knows that beating Flensburg away without excellent defense performance is mission impossible. Besides, this is a fight for the runner up position in the group. Since it's very important for both teams, I don't see how more than 55 goals could be scored in this game... Details

    In the entire last season there were only two cases when Barcelona failed to cover this handicap, beating Vardar and Lowen by exactly seven goals. This means nobody came back from Catalonia losing less than that. The Champions League is the primary target for Barcelona after the failures in the past seasons, they won't hold back here and will try to give a good performance for their fans. This Wisla team is worse than what they had last season when they made it to a step from the quarterfinal, and lost by 8 away against Kielce, 9 against Kiel, and only in Hungary stayed at -5. The margin we have is due to their decisive victory over Besiktas, but that should not be such an influence. The Turks were rather weakened in that match, and it's common knowledge Wisla are much tougher at home. Today they'll face the toughest possible test, and their defense does not seem like it can stop the Barcelona dreadnought. Rutenka, Karabatić, Lazarov and the others can cover this handicap in 15 minutes of quality gametime. I believe they will go full throttle today, as they've gained momentum (+10 against Alingsas and +20 vs Cuenca), and that the Polish team will suffer a double digit defeat. Details
