    Denmark had a brilliant first half against Sweden, but we have to admit that everything was working out perfectly for them in that match. Nielsen did great, the Swedish goal keepers horribly, and most importantly, the top Swedish player Nilsson got injured. Denmark destroy both Russia and Macedonia, but the game today will be different than those. Hungary did better than any other team here, having beaten all the opponents by at least 7 goal. France lost their head to head game by 8 points, Germany by 10. Anything but them winning the gold medal would be a surprise. Many expects agree that Hungary's game is at senior, not U18 level. They are better than Denmatk at almost every position, they have great substitutes, and not even the high spirits at Danish team can mess with their plans. The difference in quality is too big, and I think the Danes simply have to accept that bronze medal is best they can do here. Details

    I don't know if the bookmakers judged by yesterdays -6 for Sweden against Spain when fixing the odds, but Denmark cannot be this big a favorite in my opinion. Victories against Russia and Macedonia are not a benchmark, in both cases their opponents fell apart in the second half which resulted in such overwhelming victories. However, Switzerland demonstrated yesterday the extent of problems the Danes are in against a well organized team, and Sweden definitely is one. Let's not forget that Sweden came here as a medal contender, next to Spain the biggest favorite in this part of the draw, and definitely with better chances of a high ranking than Denmark. After the match yesterday Henriksen said Switzerland have better players individually, prior to the championship he also said this generation has not big stars, and after four games that has certainly been proven true. When they need to grind down their opponents as a team, Denmark has no problems, but against a quality team the lack of individual quality shows. In Nilsson and Hallback Sweden has what Denmark are lacking, they have a tougher defense and better goalkeeper, and should be the favorite here in my opinion. The bookmakers might have taken into account that Sweden can lose by up to three goals here when they made the odds, but this match is played in an earlier timeslot, and I doubt Sweden would calculate like that. There is little room for that, and it's easy to go from a tied game to -3 in the last two minutes, which would eliminate Sweden. Apart from that, a victory pressures Switzerland, as they would then need to beat Spain with a certain lead, making things more difficult for them mentally. Denmark will be burdened by having to win by +3, which could create pressure on younger players, and they cannot be such favorites in my opinion. Details

    As much as they were overrated against Macedonia yesterday, Serbia are underrated today. This is the situation: if Macedonia beat Iceland in the early match today, this game will have no importance for either of the teams. However, judging by what I've seen in the previous four matches, I think Serbia will be more motivated to make up for their poor performance yesterday in that case. On the other hand, if Iceland beat Macedonia, both teams will remain in play for the second position, but with one important thing to keep in mind. The WC is held in Moscow, with Russia attending even if they're last in the group. This was clear from their performance yesterday, when only their great offensive performance and a bad day for the Icelandic goalies kept them in play for that long. The moment the goalies put together a few saves, Iceland easily turned around a -3 lag into a 4-5 goal lead. Russia simply had no motive or desire to play quality defense, especially during the second 30 minutes, when they conceded 23 goals, and might have even 2-3 more. Serbia have a much tougher defense, will be highly motivated if Iceland win, and the problems on offense should not be as pronounced, as such Russian defense is easy to get through. The odds on Serbia to win are huge, and I believe they'd even be slight favorites if Serbia beat Macedonia yesterday. This is a match in which either Serbia will be motivated to get a good result, or nobody will, and even in that case I believe Serbia will react better. A 7-1 series in the last 10 minutes against Sweden, when they were already down by 13 and it was irrelevant by how many they lose, and especially the effort and courage in those moments, are the best proof that Serbia care how they end this competition.     As much as -15 against Spain and -18 against Denmark are in no way an accurate reflection of the quality of this Macedonian team. Talking with the coaching staff after the match, the main reason for the bad performances was detected in a mental block when teams such as Denmark or Spain are on the other side. Against Russia, Macedonia showed a full 50 minutes of the way they can play. Taleski is far from his maximum, but interviews before this match show that he is eager to perform better and get his team to the WC. I expect a much more drive, proud Macedon, and there will be no metal issues against neighbors. At the tournament in Bugojno this Macedonian team have proven they can handle the regional opponents, playing an even match against Slovenia at full strength , a team who are a few classes above Serbia. It's true that Serbia have a somewhat stronger defense and goalie, but to win a match you need to score, and Serbia are in huge trouble on that front. Absences of Arsenić and Đuričić are really felt, and Serbia lack the running quality of Spain or Denmark to take advantage of the good defense and run counterattacks against Macedonia. The Macedonian players will not allow their neighbors to beat them easily, and I see this as a much closer match than the odds suggest. Unlike Serbia, Macedonia have a perimeter lineup with Taleski, Neloski and Davitkovski that can deal with the 6-0 defense of Serbia, and if they finally perform properly, I have no doubt they'll have a chance.     Spain should beat Russia earlier today, which should mean that the Danes can lose by up to 9 goals and still win the second position. if Spain lose, they would have to win. I think this will be an easy job for them, I expect a win by 6-7 goals and some time off for the key players.
    They beat Russia by 17 goals. The Danish coach said it was the best game by this generation, but truth be told, Russia fell apart in the end, and didn't play defense at all. This margin is set today because Macedonia lost to Spain convincingly, but the officials had a lot to do with that final score (-15). This Macedonia are a tough nut to break, their pace is slow, which can cause a dramatic finish. A win would probably not help them, but that doesn't mean they don't want it.     Talking yesterday with Henriksen, when the Russians' preferred fast game style was mentioned, he only smiled and added: - It will be an exciting match. It's all clear, the Russians are running the most on this competition, they have a really fast center, and I hardly see this ending under 65 goals, only more. They played against a really slow Macedonia yesterday, who literally dragged themselves to the offense. The final result was 81 goal, with numerous hits to the goal posts by Macedonians in the last ten minutes. The Danes definitely won't play like that, they love running, and were the ones trying to impose the rhythm yesterday. The 52 goals against Spain shouldn't fool you, we'll see a completely different story today. Denmark faced Croatia in June, another team with the fast center, but are much slower than Russia, and it ended with 69, 60 and 54 goals, with Croatia only scoring 19 in that match. On the other hand, the Russians take everything to over with their style, with 61 against Macedonia, they also had over 60 against Poland, and 70 and 73 against Hungary. When the opponent who likes to run is on the other side of the court, it ends up like it did against the Belarus, who played +69 in four games. I wouldn't be surprised a bit if we see this end with 70 or over goals, and it's clear why this margin has a huge value. Details

    The Macedonians are far underestimated here, I think. A team with Taleski in can definitely match Russia, and even a tight match wouldn't surprise me. Jovic has problems with the rotation, but this is the first match, and Taleski and Neloski, as well as the rest of the starting team, can easily play lots of minutes. This is a key match for the Macedonians if they want to do anything serious. Their defense is their forte, Jovic wants a patient game and we can expect them to try to slow things down against the fast Russians, and make the match suit them better. Smaller number of goals means less possibility to see anyone being crushed here. The Russians are favorites, but they can hardly crush anyone with their hollow defense. The last preparation matches against Poland and Hungary were a measure, this selection is the weaker than both those teams, and they're too favored here. Macedonia are finally complete, they were without Neloski in the qualifications, and are without Taleski and Davitkovski in the preparation matches against Hungary.     Even though this is a fight for the ninth place, the last matches confirmed that Norway are definitely a team that deserve a higher placement. They were eliminated before the quarterfinals because of the defeats against Korea and Germany, who are among the top four teams in this competition, but perhaps the key defeat was the one against Croatia. It staggered Norway after the great start they had, and ended their rhythm. Norwegian coach confirmed his players are really motivated, and we can see how much from the matches against Slovenia and Serbia. They're respectable teams, and Norway crushed them in the way neither Russia nor Denmark could, by 14, even though Norway missed six counterattacks and could have celebrated even more convincingly. Even three goals difference will be enough against Croatia, who secured their placement among the top ten, and even though they shouldn't lack motivation in front of Croatian audience, I'm pretty convinced Norway will be more motivated. Croatia can't repeat the match they played in the group. Then, the defense were brilliant, lead by two fantastic goalies, and Gabrijela Besen played the match of her life. 11 saves out of 15 shots in 27 minutes on the court, without conceding one goal in the last 14 minutes. Norway had about 32% realization, by far the least in this championship. They faced tough Serbia's defense, a similar team in concept, also a bit slow like the Croatian one, and they solved that convincingly. They're undoubtedly better than Croatia, and I believe they'll confirm that in a normal match. Details

    A match between Denmark and Russia should offer the gold medal winner. They're the national teams that have been dominating this generation for years, and their match will the culmination of their rivalry. They played a few evened out matches in the past, but I think Russia are a big favorite today. A lot of Russian players are the seniors in handball, they play important positions in the three biggest Russian clubs (Lada, Zvezda, Volgograd), and some of them are even among the first seven. The width of the lineup that Krilenko can rely on can't be compared to any other team in the tournament, and that's the biggest card the Russians have. It's impressive how easily they crushed Sweden and Netherlands. They were especially impressive against the Dutch where it seemed like they could have won by 20 if they had to. Denmark have big quality without a doubt, they showed it in the last matches, but it doesn't seem like they can play against the Russian maximum. Eriksen's team's bench isn't as wide, and it's a big question whether they can keep up with the high Russian rhythm for the whole 60 minutes. The Russian coach is absolutely self-confident and points out that no team in this championship can defeat his. I'd agree with that, Denmark can only get a chance if Russia play worse than they can, but if they play their best, they'll win this by 4-5 goals difference. Details

    Russia came to Croatia as the biggest candidate to take the gold and their results so far confirm that. Even though they haven't always pleased their coach, the fact is that only Romania lost by less than 9 goals and that says enough. After that game, Kirilenko gave his team a lesson although they still won by 34-31. But 'just winning' is not enough for this team, Kirilenko wants perfection and the responded by beating Sweden by 13 goals. As much as Sweden have not lived up to the expectations, one gets the impression that Russia could have won by an even higher margin and that's something their opponents should fear. Netherlands have shown against Denmark and Germany that they struggle against quality teams and they tend to lose energy in the last moments of the game. Russia have 16 quality player and Kirilenko can rotate however he pleases without losing the rhythm of the game and 5-10 minutes of weaker performance will definitely be costly for the Netherlands and the Russians will use that to increase the lead. I expect Russia to start the game strong and try to settle the game in the first half, just like against Sweden. Netherlands lost against Denmark by 9 goals even though their keeper Zimmermann made many great saves. I expect Russia to win this by a similar margin and if the keepers play a good game, this could go over +10. Details

    I think it's high time Angola decoder a bad defeat.The enthusiasm and a few surprising tactical solutions were helping them in the first few games against the tough opponents, but the meeting with Serbia set things straight. Serbia showed how to stop them, and besides, Angola lost it and showed just how they play when things head south. They didn't manage to recover for the Argentina game, and lost easily to the weakest team in the group. Never once in the second half did they manage to get less than three goals down. That secured the last place in the group for the African team. They will have to fight for the 21st place in the tournament, which is not in accordance with what they displayed in the first games. It will be interesting to see their approach against Germany, but they probably won't try as hard as they can. The situation was similar in the last championship, and went things go badly, it's hard to turn the tables. On the other hand, Germany need the win to still have the chance of reaching the top spot. They had more than enough opportunity to get to know Angola's game, and even if Angola decides to push the game through the linemen, it will be difficult to pull it off against Germany. Angola doesn't have the back player other than Kassoma, who could break through the German 6-0 defense. Besides, the Germans never give up, and if possible, they will win by ten points today.     Both Netherlands and Serbia played very tiring games yesterday and I don't see them going too fast today. The Dutch were defeated after a hard struggle against Germany in a 46-goal game. Serbia's game against Germany saw exactly the same number of goals and these games are relevant for today. All 3 teams play a tough 6-0 defense and it's their basis for everything. Serbia wore themselves out against Angola yesterday and they won't rush too much. That game only confirmed Serbia's problems against organized defense and the fact that they can't get any easy goals. They were up by two players at certain points but they still didn't move the ball around fast enough to get a clean situation. Kristy Zimmermann is a better keeper than Angola's and I believe Serbia will work hard for every goal, just like against Germany and Denmark. On the other hand, yesterday's win encouraged them and I expect them to do their best in defense, and if they manage to stop the Dutch transition, this shouldn't go over the margin. The game in the qualifications ended at 27-27 but I doubt Serbia will get another 13 penalty shots. Taking how tiring yesterday's games were, I expect an easier tempo and 50-something goals. Details

    Judging by what we saw from Angola in the first too games, this margin is too low. The games against both Denmark and the Netherlands were fast and the stats of shots on goal and turnovers says a lot. Angola's attacks are very short, they don't move the ball around too much and everything happens quickly. Neither Denmark nor the Netherlands have found a solution for Angola's quick offense led by Kassoma, which will be able to score plenty of goals against Serbia. In addition to strong Kassoma and Venancio, Angole have a couple of players with the lower center of gravity that are able to make a quick move and get the bigger players out of their way. Serbia struggled against organized defenses, so it's logical Valdevit will try to make use of Angola's slow return into defense. Defense and transition are the weak spots of both teams and both will try to exploit that. This is a very important game in the battle for the fourth spot but the margin has no basis. Angola played a 64 and 67 games against Denmark and the Netherlands, Serbia saw 58 against Denmark and went under against Germany.     It's sure that Germany did better in the first two rounds but both teams got what they wanted - 4 points. The artistic impression means very little at the start and the real deal is now coming. The bookies are definitely under the influence of the first few games as the margin on the Netherlands ins too high. This team got the 6th spot at last year's EC and they missed out on the semifinals due to one defeat against Hungary by four goals. This Dutch team has beaten the Danes twice and that just shows their quality. They flopped two years ago at the WC but 10th place is not a bad result after all. The Germans weren't even there and they took the 10th spot last year at the EC. They can't be such favorites today. They won their games against Serbia and Argentina thanks to great transition after a successful defense but the Dutch won't give them so many chances. We can expect a huge battle on the pitch in which both teams will have an equal shot. The odds are truly too high and if the Germans win, I don't think it will be this convincingly. Details

    Kazakhstan left the worst impression on the first day, thus confirming the would be destined for bottom spots once again. Korea scored how they pleased and they could have easily gone over 50 goals but Kazakhstan were lucky enough that their opponents were not too engaged in defense, which allowed him to get a 'decent' -22 defeat. Croatia struggled for 30 minutes against Uruguay, who are a much stronger team than Kazakhstan but they played brilliant second half, the way they should have played that game.Defense worked great and Uruguay scored only 3 goals in the second half, which is a noteworthy feat against any team. Kazakhstan are an even weaker team, they lack discipline in offense (34 technical fouls against Korea) and Croatia will have plenty of chances for easy goals. Korea beat them by 22 goals but could have been much more convincing while Croatia stayed motivated against Uruguay even after the game was won. They will have the support of their fans, which is a huge bonus and Croatia should be able to cover this spread with only one great half-time. Two years ago, they won in Montenegro by 46-23 after their disappointing preliminary phase. Croatia might rest some players today but it shouldn't be felt. I expect Croatian wings to increase the lead with good counters and if they motivation stays at the right level, this could go to +25 for Croatia. The only case this could go under +15 is in case of a major relaxation as the difference in quality is huge. Details

    Denmark have definitely not lived up to their expectations. Coach Eriksen criticized is team's performance against Angola and there's no doubt they will be fully motivated from the start. It's very hard to remember when Denmark played so poorly and with so little dedication in defense and when they conceded 30 goals against such a team. Even though they scored 34, things didn't work in offense either as they missed too many sitters, they dropped the balls all over the place and that's the end result. I'm sure they'll do much better today. Serbia left a pretty poor impression against Germany, and that will not go well against motivated Danes.     The bookies are obviously still under the impression of the first round, but that's not the real state of things for me. Angola lost by only 4 goals against Denmark but the Danish coach Eriksen was unhappy with his team's performance. After the game, he clearly stated that Angola are not a good team and that the result should have been 45-15 for his team. Angola knew how to make use of the space that opened up, the second half was without defense on either end and it ended 34-30. It's worth mentioning that Denmark had +9 at the start of the second half and they should have won by some 10 goals. Angola have no real quality, they barely beat Kongo to take the African Cup last year and they're probably the weakest team here apart from Kazakhstan. Just to remind you, Angola prepared for this tournament against some minor teams from the Spanish league and lost a few games. Netherlands struggled against Argentina in the first round, a team with a game style that doesn't suit them, but they still should have won more convincingly. They had 24-16 with 14 minutes to go, but they scored only 1 more goal and Argentina got to -2. Angola's style should suit the Netherlands better as some of their slower players leave plenty of space for a fast transition and the Dutch should be able to score over 30 goals.     Denmark are in great form, they are ready and are the prime candidates for medals in addition to Russia. They have won all their prep games and they faced some solid contenders to take the medals here. They were particularly impressive against Norway and they came here in good form. They have been playing together for five years and they understand each other very well. On the other hand, there's not much info on Angola but it's clear their form is dropping and I think they are even worse than two years ago. They struggled a lot during the African Cup and they barely beat Congo (1 draw in group +2 in the finals). They played their prep games against some Spanish clubs and they cannot be optimistic here. Two years ago they played against Norway, a team similar to Denmark and they struggled against them. It's the start of the tournament, hence a more cautious stake but I think the difference in quality is too big and the Danes should cover this. Details
