A tough, serious Sibir are coming today, and defense is their best asset. This team concedes a little over 2 goals on average and they base their game on solid defense. They have had a few overs lately, but it has a lot to do with the opponents they played against, while the games against strong teams from the West speak for themselves. Minsk do not have nearly as strong offense as Barys or Dynamo Moskvato be able to score a couple of goals. The away team are the favorites here, I expect an under and a tough game, but the odds are unplayable. However, playing an under on weak and unconvincing Dinamo seems like an even better option. Florida are hosting strong defensive team again, the defending champions Chicago. The visiting team are maybe the best defensive team in the league as they have shown lately by playing great defense. Florida are a rather weak team with humble offensive potential and I do not see how they can score over two goals in this game. They did not score three goals against teams of Chicago's caliber (Boston, LA) that play tough defense and I do not think they will today either. Last game they surprised Minnesota with tough defense and took the game into overtime and I think such thing might happened today again and that is why I believe that their under is much better bet. Chicago do not play games with many shots on goal, they come to play tough defense and today Florida will have a difficult time scoring over two goals and I do not wish to forecast the final result because it mostly depends on Florida's defensive performance. SKA will have the leading role here. The new lines set up by Jalonen seem great, and SKA look intimidating. Ufa are a big name, and in SKA lose this match, they will also lose their first place, so they'll have no trouble in finding motivation. Last season, SKA won in both of their encounters when if consider their H2H, although I believe that this will have no influence here. The Ducks tend to play good defense when playing at home, and they conceded only one goal in the last two rounds. Jets scored just two goals against them and that is another fact that speaks in favor of this bet. The reason I didn't choose to bet for the home team to win is very simple - Calgary might compensate for the absences with a solid teamwork. They did that couple of times this season, and they really showed character on couple of occasions. But, with that many forwards missing I don't believe they can score more than two goals against Ducks's very solid defense.

They've gotten used to the absence of their top forward Kuznetsov, but , lately, they've been troubled by the absence of an important defender Katichev, which most likely has a significant influence on their defense. Five defeats in the last six matches isn't something that exudes confidence, while absences are certain. SKA have problems with motivation in less significant matches, but this is not one of them. Traktor are a big name, so they won't have this kind of a problem. They played their best matches against the strongest opponents, literally crushing them, while, in the last round, they where defeated by Admiral. However, they were still the far better team in that match. These somewhat poorer results were probably caused by the absence of important players, and the important thing is -they will be complete today. Kovalchuk returned earlier than planned, whereas Ketov and Kuteikin will be back today. Moreover, the difference in quality between them and Traktor is currently enormous. If they win, they could return to the first place in the West, which is extremely important for them. Coach Jalonen said that this was a very important match, and the team would undoubtedly play the best they can. SKA have a better team even if Traktor's team had all the players at their disposal. However, without the two top players and in a poor form, I don't think they will pose a threat to the highly-motivated SKA. Details

More important, they won't play an open game with Buffalo, as they did with Edmonton and Colorado, so the Sabres shouldn't have a chance to pluck out something out of it. The Sharks have had a fantastic start to the season, and with four clean wins and an impressive 21-5 goal ratio they look like the best team in the league. They've clearly found the right combo, created some kind of chemistry, and are playing great on both sides of the ice. Ottawa have had a somewhat disappointing start of the season with a close victory and two defeats. They are doing very bad on defense, conceding too many goals in their last two games. The offense was so-so, but they will probably be playing without their captain and one of their main attackers Spezza today, which might further weaken their offense. The Sharks have been playing perfect defense so far, so the Sharks have better odds to win even with Spezza in my opinion, as Ottawa were never really good on the offense. Another thing in the Sharks favor is the home ice advantage, on which they've won every game so far. Details

They are big favourites playing at home against a modest Vityaz team, so I fully expect them to score their average five goals at least. They have the best attack in the league, ahead of mighty SKA, their squad so deep that they score five even when their first line doesn't score a point. They were under this margin at home only against the aforementioned SKA, but went over 5 goals a game in every other match. Vityaz don't have a good defense at all - one of the worst ones in the Western Conference even, so I think that four goals is a minimum they will concede in this match. The two teams have played a preseason match and Barys went over 3.5 goals, so this also looks like an over bet. Details

The away team lost their last 9 matches and 6 out of those 9 ended with a handicap. Even more importantly, they lost four away matches in the regular time and three of those were with a handicap. So, Novokuznetsk is probably the weakest team in the competition right now. On the other side, Lokomotiv are clearly improving their form. They won their last two games against Severstal and, even more importantly, they won the away match against the defending champion Dynamo in the last round. That has certainly lifted their spirits. They won with ease against Minsk last time they performed in front of their own crowd and I expect to see a similar performance today. They didn't start the season in a good way, but they are still a very tough opponent for everyone and especially for Novokuznetsk. They showed a great fighting spirit against Dynamo and in front of their own crowd they should perform even better. Lokomotiv really need to win this one and it would be foolish not to make this bet with the odds the bookmakers are giving. Details

I will repeat my bet from two days ago since nothing has changed in Dinamo, in fact, I am even more sure after that game two days ago. In their last eight games Dinamo went over this limit only once and that happened against Slovan, one of the weakest teams in the league. Two rounds ago they lost their best scorer (player) Maxim Pestushk who is the leading league scorer and that has proven to be huge handicap in the game against Lokomotiv. With him they rarely scored four goals, but without him they scored just one against Lokomotiv. They have many problems with absences and injuries and they will be severely limited today and it is unlikely they can score four goals. Spartak are one of the best defensive teams in the East and they concede little over 2 goals per game and in 12 games so far they conceded over three goals only three times. They conceded four in their last game against Barys, but Barys are the best offensive team in the league and Spartak played their second goalie in that game and today their first goalie Glass is returning. In tough Moscow derbies we never get the chance to see a lot of goals, so if we take into account the statistical data and all the problems Dinamo have with their lineup I really do not see them going over three goals. On the opposite side, we have Lokomotiv, who have a very good defense and have only conceded over three goals in two of their last eight games, which makes this a sensible and value bet in my opinion. Besides, Dynamo are missing league top scorer Pestushko and this will be a huge setback for them in offense. Their team is decimated, they are plagued by injuries, which puts an additional dent into their attacking play. As already mentioned, Lokomotiv can rely on their solid defense; even when they lose, they don't concede too many goals, and I don't believe they can let in more than three against their decimated opponents today. In addition, their confidence is up after beating Vityaz. The away team lost Belanger two matches ago and he was their only star of the team and I think they have no chance at all here. Donbass has the advantage in all aspects, their performance is at its peak and, lastly, last season they won against Avtomobilist here with spread. Three great home games by Medvescak give us an ideal opportunity to play on the Bears, as they host an obviously weaker opponent. Medvescak have beaten the great SKA and Barys at home, and also Ugra in the meantime, a team that can be classified as equal or slightly better than Avtomobilist. Medvescak's play in these three games was impressive, with all segments of the play improving. They limited the mighty Barys offense to only two goals, partly with a very good defense, partly with the great Brust in net, so the odds of 1.90 present a good value. The visitors are coming after a loss in Minsk to another rather poor team, so it's obvious they're not very comfortable at the away games in the Western Conference. The word from Medvescak is that they're not going to underestimate their opponents, they've learned their lessons, and we believe it to be true. No team has the fan support like the Bears, the team atmosphere is at its highest at the moment, the form is great, the opponent is not too strong, the odds are still good and the time is right to play on Medvescak to win. They have four victories from the last five games, and suffered a defeat in the away game against Lev. They are a quite powerful team, especially in defense, and they showed their attacking strength by scoring five goals against Lokomotiv in the last round. And this is the team stronger than such guests. Severstal, on the other side, is not brilliant. This is the team assembled this summer because at the end of the last season all important players left. Therefore, this season their potential is much more modest. They have three defeats in a row, and six in the last eight games. These two victories were reached at home against the weak Minsk and then impressioned Medvescak. Bad results are not the most important reason for this bet, as Severstal's roster is comprised of injured players. There are missing 5 important players, two out of four top defenders, and this is an enormous handicap manifested in the results, too. Torpedo is a huge favorite at home, the difference in quality, even if Severstal were complete, would have still been great, and this is an excellent bet. Severstal has not won here for the last three seasons. In the last two games they were destroyed despite the better line-up than today - hence this bet has to be taken. Details
