Lubin's coach, Slovenian David Dedek, said, before the season started, that he wants his team to play at a face pace all 40 minutes, because he has players capable of doing that. The core of the team are fast Americans (Lewis and Washington) who showed great productivity last season in Polish league. In the first round, Lublin defeated Turow 91-83 at home, and in the second round they lost at Slupsk 88-89. In the pre-season they went over 160 against Torun, Anwil (170), Trefl who are inconsistent (/176), Rosa (182) and Legia Warsaw to whom they lost 80-90 at neutral court. Lublin were under 160 against Dabrowa and Krosni who are defensively oriented.
Legia are rookies in the Polish league, they stand out with fast basketball. In the pre-season they also went over today's margin (Slupsk 289, Rosa 174, Trefl 185 and 148). Against Dabrowa they did not play at high numbers (157), with Krosno at 170. In the first round of the championship, they played at 154 against Szczecin who are much slower and stronger this season (changed their coach and playing style from last season). Against defensively oriented Asseco, who were on an 8 game run in which they have not scored over 69 points, they lost 87-76, Legia had 73 shots from the floor and over 20 free throws. This game is the best proof of Legia's performances, how they are offensively oriented. The same can be said for Lublin, who will impose their pace here, and I think there is enough room on this margin for an over. Details

Ludwigsburg are doing great at the start of the season, they played 16 games including preseason and won all 16. Unlike most German teams, they have been playing competitive games for around three weeks. On Tuesday they trashed PAOK by 33 points in FIBA Champions League group stage game. They dealt with Frankfurt in Bundesliga on Sunday easily. Home in qualifiers for CL they beat Brussels by 26, Cluj by 6. They also have +33 in preseason against Tubigen who are comparable to
Giessen. The visitors did well against Brose in Bamberg (-7 at HT) but Brose were out of rhythm. Giessen played Gotha after that (newly-promoted team that played without 4 important players). I don't think that last season's game are relevant because Giessen are complete different now. Quality-wise, they are not even close to where they were the last two seasons. Ludwigsburg had ups and downs home last season but their form and quality at the moment are too much for Giessen. The fact next round is played on Sunday I take the 1st half handicap. Details

Defense-oriented coach Priftis was in charge at Aris the past few seasons. Now, the legendary coach Giannakis is in charge, which means their game style won't change much. Offense-wise, they seem very bad for now. For example, they lost to Koroivos 55-71 over the weekend. In the cup QFs they beat PAOK 70-63 but their city rivals were out of luck in that game. Aris played only Turkish Yesil at higher numbers in preseason but that's not very relevant. Last season in CL, they played 9 games home and stayed under 150 or under only with fast-paced Nymburk and Banvit.
Stelmet kept the same coach and the same roster from last season when they finished at 144 with Sassari, 114 Partizan, 150 Beskitas, 164 Ludwigsburg 164. They lost to AEK 64-71. The Polish team later played some Turkish and Italian teams which cannot be compared to Aris. Over the weekend they lost to Szczecin 62-74. They played fast-paced Trefl and Turow in the first two rounds of the Polish championship which means the high numbers aren't a problem.
Aris are a better team but I think they need to try and win this through defense. The Greek team is expected to control the pace but I don't think they will have it easy against the well-experienced Stelmet. Details

Lavrio kept the same coach and some of the players but most of the team was changed.They managed to reach playoffs last season and want the same now. To get that, they will have to beat teams like Kymis. Lavrio lost to second-tier Peristeri in preseason. Kymis played the same tournament and lost to Peristeri too but they beat Lavrio 66-62. Lavrio's meetings with Unics and CSKA aren't relevant just like the ones against Panionios in the cup. Later, when Panionios were complete, they beat Lavrio 79-72. Lavrio played Promitheas twice in preseason. The first one was 80-80 in regulation time and the second one 65-65 in the cup. Promitheas are among the faster Greek teams.
Kymis also played Lavrio in first championship round and lost 69-75. They lost 81-86 home later. But the team was completely overhauled over the summer. None of the players from last season stayed and the coach is new too. They didn't play too many games opened for public in preseason. They beat Lavrio 66-62 and then lost to Peristeri 72-74, later to CSKA Moscow on neutral grounds 60-81. They then lost in the cup to Faros 66-70 after overtime away (58-58 in regulation time).
I think Kymis will be a tougher nut to crack this season and that Lavrio aren't expected to have a walk in the park today. In official games this season (the cup) both teams ended with low numbers. In a head to head match they finihsed under 130 and I don't expect them close to 150 today. Apart from total under, a good option is a team under at home team as well. Details

Ludwigsburg re-shuffle their locker room every Summer, but the coach stays the same. The team has been led by John Patrick for years, his focus is aggressive defense with a lot of pressure. The situation is similar in Frankfurt, where the Canadian Gordon Herbert is also best known for the defensive strength of his team. In the previous round, both these teams played games at high numbers, but Bremerhaven and Gottingen are the run-and-gun German teams, and these games are not relevant. Ludwigsburg are still undefeated this season, if we look at the games against stronger teams, they finished at 153 at home against Istanbul, 153 against Cluy, and 144 against Brussels in pre-season, even though these teams cannot really be compared to Frankfurt.
Skyliners were decimated by injuries in the first part of the pre-season, basically without all of their key players, and we can ignore a good part of the pre-season. When they got complete, they played at 147 at Bayreuth, 147 against Brose, at 142 and 144 against offensively oriented Telekom. Last year, Ludwigsburg defeated Frankfurt 70-68 at home last season, Frankfurt won at home 65-63, their head-to-heads are usually even, and I don't expect it to be easy for Ludwigsburg today. Frankfurt are, in my opinion, the best defensive team they faced this season. Details

After they defeated Brose by 13 points (+15 by halftime) at the tournament in Zadar, in the first round of Bundesliga they won at Giessen by 34 points (+26), and on Tuesday at home they defeated Braunschweig by 58 (+27). Gottingen lost tat Frankfurt by 8 (-7) on Tuesday, in the first round they lost at home to Oldenburg by 8 (-6). Last year Gottingen and Bayern also played at this time, and Bayern won by 31 (+14) at Gottingen who struggled with injury problems back then, and they are struggling with them now as well. Centers Kramer and Carter are out, their tallest player is a 210 cm tall shooting guard. Watson is also questionable, he missed the first two championship games. Cunningham is back for Bayer, and Jovic could also be back.
Bayern have not struggled against teams of Gottingen's quality last season. At home they won by 15 (+21). Since they have a Eurocup game in Istanbul over the week, I don't think they will leave anything to chance, they will have the game decided by halftime. Bayern seem better this season, Djordjevic says he asked full focus from his players, he improved their defense. This is a situational bet considering Barcelona B circumstances. According to the newest information, Marc Garcia and Rodions Kuruc won't be playing for Barca today, so two of their three key players. In the first round they won at home against weakened Lleida, Kurucs scored 14 points, same as Garcia, while Gerun scored one point more, and he is, with the American Koon, their only player over 21, with 23 years of age. Barca are even younger this season than last, players like Trias, Pen and Pena are out. 17-year-old Luka Samanic will probably get more playing time today. Center Diagne is also questionable, he played for Barcelona's first team last season at Joventut (played a few minutes).
Caceres are a mediocre second division team, their quality is close to last year's when they were home court oriented. They weren't great in pre-season, lost convincingly to stronger teams, but they played most of the games without their top player from last season, Rakocevic (15 points on average), who is now completely fit. In pre-season they defeated Oviedo away and first division side Betis at a neutral court, in the first round parried Manresa well, they are complete today and I think they won't miss this chance against weakened young Barcelona. Araberri finished in spot 12 in the second division last season. They decided not to play that league this season and sized their opportunity to apply for LEB Oro. Their application was granted in early September. About a week later, they hired coach Perez. They needed some time to acquire players. Quality-wise, they are not much. They are far from last season's level when two top scorers of the second division were on the team. They played two preseason games, both in the last week. First they beat Baskonia B 83-82 (team that will play third division this season) and then lost to Iraurgi 62-76 (who are far from where they were last season).
Castello are not among the teams that can count on playoffs but they at least had a normal preseason. Their roster seems better than last season as coach Ten decided to acquire some good second division players. They opened the preseason with a defeat to Peat away (Prat undefeated in preseason) and then to third-tier Alicante away. Things got better after that game as they stood up to Valencia 71-78 and trashed a third tier a few days ago. In the end, they beat Huesca.
I expect odds to be set lower at Castello winning. I think they are a better team. The home team's preseason has to leave a mark on them. Details

Antwerp won by 3 points on Sunday which means Novgorom will have to win by 4 or more today if they want to reach 3rd qualifying round. The Russian team had a lead for 35 minutes in the first leg and +9 in the last quarter. Coach Lukic said that his play was to limit the Belgian under 80 points but they ended up allowing them 90. Antwerp barely won even though their two-points shooting was 65 percent and total of 52 from the floor. Russian's offensive potential is not questionable but I think there is quite a lot of room for improvements in defense compared to the first leg. I don't think the Giants will be at similar number offense-wise. The Russian beat Bayern, Besiktas, Krka, Union Olimpoka and Tofas in preseason. They also stood up to Banvit in Turkey and managed to do well defensively in most of preseason games.
Antwerp should not be underrated but they displayed shortcomings in the first qualifying round against Lulea. They got the win in Sweden in the last minute and then won by 9 home. Things were more difficult than the final result suggests. It's possible they will be without the important guard Kalinski today. In preseason games with better teams they had a loss to Gravelines by 7, to Telekom by 11 and a 1-point win over Frankfurt.
I think Nizhny have more room for progress compared to Antwerp and the first game. I expect the Russian team to reach the next stage. Going with a handicap win at Novgorod. Antwerp will have to settle for the FIBA Europe Cup the rest of the season. Details

Coach Bauerman prefers tough and aggressive game style. Last year, he took over Wurtzburg mid-season and improved the defense. This summer they limited opponents to lower numbers. They lost to Lietuvos away 66-71, to Siauliai 70-74, and beat fast-paced Telekom 71-67 on neutral grounds. The only problem is the AEK game which they lost 85-87 but AEK played super-fast in preseason (beat Bayreuth 90-85, Spirou 98-91, Braunschweig 100-97, yesterday UNICS 88-85). Istanbul BB had many ups and downs last season and didn't change that in preseason. They went high with offense-oriented teams and lower with those less offense-oriented. They played 59-58 with Sakary Buyuksehir in the last test game and earlier lost to Ludwigsburg 72-81. This is the first out of two games in FIBA Europe Cup 1st round qualifiers and will definitely not have overtime. An intense finish is not likely either. Details
