First match for Sharapova since Wimbledon

Sharapova didn't take advantage of the fact Serena and Na Li were knocked out of Wimbledon early on. Her 4rd round match with Kerber was decided by the smallest things. She's meeting Muguruza today. She was one game away from winning in their head-to-head match at Roland Garros, but Sharapova mental strength prevailed once again

Muguzura has no points to defend at this point in the season, which means it's quite possible she will get in the Top 20. She missed this part of the last year's season after an ankle injury. This year, she only had to pick up where she left off last year. She is definitely a good-quality player, but there are some things she has to work on still. First and foremost, she has to be consistent throughout the entire tournament. But, she had to have consistency throughout the matches as well.

When it comes to tournaments, she has had a few surprising defeats this year. Her game has had ups and down in some matches as well, she would experience problems, and the latest example of that is her match against Dubois yesterday. Muguzura lost only three games in the first and third set, but she lost the second set in tie break, despite making up for two lost service games. 

Sharapova's season ended in Cincinnati last year. She injured her shoulder, and missed the entire second part of the season. Ahead of the season, she said:

- I think I prepared for this season well, I started earlier this year. I like being on the court again, I missed it.

She won three titles this year, the most important one is Roland Garros, of course. She took advantage of Serena, Na Li, and Agnieszka's defeats. The situation was similar in Wimbledon, Sharapova was soon given the role of the main candidate for the title, but Kerber knocked her out in the 4rd round.

- Details decided all three sets. I started off slow, I was trying to set up my game, I managed to saved a few match points, but the last one I couldn't save - Sharapova said after Wimbledon.

Sharapova is ready for all the tests she will face now, and says she's happy there are no points to defend, which is more relaxing for her.

Muguzura lost to Sharapova twice, both times on clay. They met last year, and Muguzura lost convincingly, but this year at Roland Garros she was one game away from winning. In the second and thrid set of that match, Muguzura had 45 mistakes, and Sharapova once again displayed her mental power which is sometimes all she needs to win.

- I was more aggressive in the second set, I put extra pressure on her second service. And suddenly, she was no longer free to do what she wanted - Sharapova said after their last head-to-head match. Muguzura said that she has to make improvements regarding her mental strength.
