Juan Monaco - Adrian Mannarino (3:6 7:6 1:6)

The Argentine hasn't played since Tokio

  • Published:

Mannarino has two challenger titles this season and a 1-6 record at ATP level. Monaco had wrist problems and has been pulling out of tournaments lately. There are a lot of questions regarding him and not many answers

Monaco

He opened last season in February after a 6-month break caused by wrist injury. He admitted about retiring back then but he managed to get back and once again finished the season earlier as more health problems emerged. He is to open this season at Indian Wells after pulling out of all the previous ones with wrist problems. He claims to be practicing regularly and that he's now ready but he was receiving treatment for his wrist regularly just last month.

We cannot write him off regardless of the long break. He won Houston after being out with 6 months last season after not believing that was even possible.

Mannarino

He is 10-0 at challenger level this season and 1-6 at ATP level. The one win is over Fritz, who won the first set and had a break in the second one. His going to extremes is easier to understand knowing that his ranking would drop when he would focus on ATP tournaments.

He has done well here in the past two years. He has 5 main draw wins and has won the only meeting with Monaco. The important thing here is the state in which his opponent is. Not even Harrison probably knows how much he can do right not.
