A clash of two top-level strategists

Atletico and Chelsea are in fine form ahead of this meeting and completely injury-free

Atletico are being underrated in Spain compared to top two favorites for the title but they have been doing great so far. They are in spot two, 4 points short of top table Barcelona. Last weekend, they recorded a 2-0 win over Sevilla. The team from Madrid cannot complain about their start to Champions League either as they got a goalless draw against one of the top competitors Roma.

Atletico won both games at the new stadium and Simeone is hoping to keep that up in CL:

- I'm really looking forward to the Chelsea game. Those kind of games can show where we are exactly when it comes to quality and form. I have no decided yet who is to play. I approach each game individually as each demands a special approach and players who can fulfill the needs in that game. We have the quality to play top teams but we need to show it on the pitch.

Newcastle United

Diego Costa, who is set to join Atletico on loan from Chelsea in January, is to watch the game from the stands:

- We are all happy he will join the team. We know what to expect from him and we need to just finalize everything and make things official. 

Things are ideal at Atletico as they cannot count only on midfielder Fernandez, who hasn't played this season at all. 

For the English side this will be the first proper CL meeting since the one against Qarabag cannot be considered much of a challenge for them. They won that game 6-0 but what makes them optimistic is their Premiership games. Over the weekend, they beat Stoke away 4-0.

Conte has respect for Atletico and their game style:

- Atletico are organized brilliantly and that might, in my opinion, be the most important thing in football. They play Barcelona and Real and are able to stand up to them. When you can do that, you know you're a top level coach. They might not have the biggest stars in Europe but they are a team.

Things will be difficult in Madrid today:

- The first game isn't relevant. This will be the first proper challenge for us. It's very important that we do well. These kind of games are important because they show you your worth. All the players are fit and ready and I hope they fans will enjoy a good game.

Only Danny Drinkwater is out at Chelsea. Conte said David Luiz is alright and that he should start today.
