Halep without an official match in a month and a half

Jankovic managed to beat Garcia in straight sets in the first round. She might not have played the top match, Jelena managed to take advantage of a bad day and a horrible form of Garcia. She is facing a much tougher challenge now since Halep is very motivated following a rather long break

Jelena played Garcia in the first round. She definitely expected a tough match but in the end Garcia lost rhythm after the close first set and let the opponent have the second set by winning only 2 games. She got frustrated because of all the chances she missed in the first set, the second serve failed her and she finished with staggering 41 unforced errors.

While Garcia played one of the worst matches this season, Jankovic did great. She had excellent footwork and good defense and had an answer to everything Garcia tried. She also won over 60% of points on second serve, demonstrating excellent defense and good defense to offense transition. That will not work against Simona though. The Romanian has much more powerful shots and a lot of consistency. 

Halep's last match took place on June 30th when she lost to Cepelova in Wimbledon first round. Grass court was never one of her favorite surfaces but a lot was expected from her at Wimbledon. But she failed to find a solution for Cepelova's tricky game. Two slips were enough for Halep to decided it's time for a break and new preparation period. She worked hard and then went to Toronto where she talked about Serena Williams for a long time at the press conference:

- Serena is the top player. You can beat her but that's very tough. My game was amazing when I beat her. It was my best match ever. I admire her and enjoy watching her play. I also learn a lot from her. I think we're very close when it comes to fierceness. 

The Romanian wasn't that talkative when asked about the previous month during which she did yoga and mostly worked on her physical fitness. She is without rhythm, while Jelena has a great deal of confidence after a convincing wins. Still, the Romanian is better in all segments and should be able to find rhythm and win eventually.
