In the past few years, the tennis in this arena has come down to serve and a few lightning bolt strokes. Good servers usually do well here, and we have a clash of this kind of players, I would even call them the specialists for these ocassions. even though Berrer is by far a more famous and proven name in tennis, I think we will see a far more equal match that the odds would suggest. The reason for this are the conditions and Kravchuk's game that fits well into them. The Russian has had 26 wins indoors and is the former semi-finalist of this tournament. I expect an even match in which the serve will dominate and the match will go over this margin without too much trouble. Details

As a lot of points were at stake, this cost him his Top 100 position which made his season as a solid failure. However, the Slovakian player healed his wounds and now he has to salvage what he can. His motivation is huge since he does not want to go into Australian Open qualifications, and this tournament is a great chance to avoid that. He's on a right path since he's had a great match against Burquiere, a player who beat him indoors. Even though Kuznetsov seems like a far better opponent, he is primarily a clay player and this is only his second indoor tournament this season. The first round brought him inexperienced Ritschard and how he's facing a real test. I think Klizan is a far more dangerous opponent in these conditions and I think he has the motivation working for him. Details

I'm opting for a player who's ranking is more than 200 positions short for a few reasons. Bohli's current ranking is a consequence of his health issues, and in no respect paints the right picture. His heath situation seems to be getting better finally. Bohli is doing best in these conditions and achieved his best results in them, which is not the case with de Bakker. He played only one tournament of this kind this season, and the transition might pose a huge problem for him - he had just returned from playing on clay in South America. On the other hand, this is Bohli's sixth consecutive tournament indoors. He's played here quite often, and has nice memories of the tournament, which will definitively count for a head start. I don't see the point of the almost equal coefficient for both of them, so I will gladly put the win on the Italian. He has two convincing wins behind him in which he has not lost a single set and he can "go out on a whim" here since he achieved what he had to. Before anything else, I'll point out what is very important for me in this match - the fact that Verdasco is not afraid of Ferrer and that he beat him no less than seven times in his career. In addition to that, his playing style is far more suited for indoor conditions, while form is currently on his side too. Therefore, it is no wonder that he achieved such good results in his 13 consecutive appearances in this event. The Finn currently has three Asian tournaments behind him in which he didn't excel, but he didn't disgrace himself either, while reaching the finals in Tokyo sounds rather decent. Becker took part in the last two (Beijing, Shanghai), and, considering the fact that he achieved only two wins in the qualifiers, his adventure cannot be seen as even slightly positive. The German plays better indoors, but so does the Finn, and the history of their past duels speaks for itself. Namely, Nieminen won in their last three encounters, two of which were played indoors, which suggests that he knows how to threaten Becker in those conditions. If we add his exceptional history at this tournament (three finals), as well as the fact that in five matches, Becker won only once here, Finn's win seems like a rather imminent scenario. Details

Copil and indoors go hand in hand, and the Romanian can undoubtedly give his best in these conditions. He is certainly not on Dimitrov's level, but a great serve guarantees many free points in these conditions. On the other hand , Dimitrov is struggling lately, and although he said he will be fully committed here, he has yet to gain my trust. That is why this looks like a close match to me.
