    The third match between these teams in less than a month. In the friendly match on July 19th, Auxerre were better with 1-0, overpowering them on the field, and in the league-cup four days ago, they passed after the penalty kicks (1-1, 4-3). Both took out combined lineups, but the guest coach Vannucchi gave more of his players a rest.
    In a duel between the best lineups, Auxerre will definitely dominate, but considering the injuries in the important offensive players Sammaritan and Gragnic, I'll rather rely on the good defense with the rested Castelletto and Puygrenier, and Bouby in front of them.
    Orleans will try to bunker up, and wait for chances from the counters - it worked in Sochaux against an unready and untrained home team, but this will be a different story. They "spent" the key offensive reinforcement Maah on Tuesday, they generally don't have wide roster to rotate, and they will face more organized (at least right now) and serious opponent.     Like the coach Kuptel said, the Polish need their best handball to win today. What they showed against Germany yesterday was completely opposite. There was no offense to speak of, the much praised defense lacked firmness - the home team looked scared, intimidated in front of their own fans. The Belarussians point out their rich experience, half of their team plays the '94 generation matches, and that should decide the match today. By what we've seen yesterday, the Polish will hardly be able to deal with Karavatski, as well as the problematic and intelligent pivot Karalek - this guy made wonders in the junior EC in Austria. Add to that the fact that the Belarussian goalies are a level above, win shouldn't be questionable. The only possible advantage the Polish team have is the home court, everything else is on their opponent's side. Details

    This margin is basically just a reflection of the average points in USA's matches in this championship. I think that still cannot be a true benchmark, as the Americans played just one serious match here so far, against Greece, and scored 83 points in that game, allowing 73. Later they played against Angola, scoring 99, 124 against the Philippines, 122 against Japan, and 113 against China yesterday. It's common knowledge that Philippines and Japan don't play much in terms of defense and are now battling for 13-16th place ranking, while the Chinese also play run-and-gun basketball. Last year in the final of the American Cadets Championship USA beat Argentina in a match where the total points were 142, and in the semifinal against Porto Rico the total was 157. Serbia are much stronger on defense than any of those teams. Here they've so far limited Canada to 64 points, Emirates to 31, Argentina to 57, and relaxed against Egypt and China, allowing over 60 points. Serbia's selector announced a warlike match throughout the 40 minutes, and that they will not get scared of USA like other teams, even saying they might go all the way. That was probably an overly optimistic statement, but if the Greeks gave USA trouble and dulled their offense to such an extent, there is no reason a defensively even better Serbia wont do the same.     Talking yesterday with Henriksen, when the Russians' preferred fast game style was mentioned, he only smiled and added: - It will be an exciting match. It's all clear, the Russians are running the most on this competition, they have a really fast center, and I hardly see this ending under 65 goals, only more. They played against a really slow Macedonia yesterday, who literally dragged themselves to the offense. The final result was 81 goal, with numerous hits to the goal posts by Macedonians in the last ten minutes. The Danes definitely won't play like that, they love running, and were the ones trying to impose the rhythm yesterday. The 52 goals against Spain shouldn't fool you, we'll see a completely different story today. Denmark faced Croatia in June, another team with the fast center, but are much slower than Russia, and it ended with 69, 60 and 54 goals, with Croatia only scoring 19 in that match. On the other hand, the Russians take everything to over with their style, with 61 against Macedonia, they also had over 60 against Poland, and 70 and 73 against Hungary. When the opponent who likes to run is on the other side of the court, it ends up like it did against the Belarus, who played +69 in four games. I wouldn't be surprised a bit if we see this end with 70 or over goals, and it's clear why this margin has a huge value. Details

    A match between two worst teams in this year's Grand Prix, each have one win and five defeats. Still, there are a few details that make me believe Thailand will win. First, even though the least important, hosting the tournament played in Bangkok this weekend. Also, Thailand have been close to home for almost all three weeks. They played in Korea, in Hong Kong last weekend, and started getting ready on Monday. On the other side, the Dominicans played two European tournaments, started their trip to Bangkok on Monday evening, and had less than three days to adjust. In game, this is a match between the organized Thai team, who don't have a lost ball in the offensive, whose setters and forwards communicate easily, and have a characteristic speed in the offense realization. Their traditional problem is height, they lack points from the block, but that's compensated by persistence and lots of energy in other segments. The Dominicans are an extremely offensive team, have multiple quality options in the offense, aggressive approach to the serve, but their reception isn't consistent, which often causes lots of mistakes, something characteristic for this team in almost any match, especially against teams like Thailand. The Dominicans played only one Grand Prix match against an Asian team (defeat against China 3-0). The home team will get back the center blocker Thinkaow Pleumjit back for this tournament. She's an important link, especially in the offense realization. Details
