    Granted, Rostov have had a bad start to the season, but I cannot agree with the odds set here because I have the reason to believe the situation at Rostov will change today. First and foremost, they have so far played only teams from the upper part of the championship table (Dinamo, Lokomotiv, Kuban, Krasnodar), and three of those meetings were road games. They played Trabzon away as well, and displayed a really good game in that match. The main reason I have faith in Rostov is the fact their top player Kanga, who does a lot of work both in defense and offense, is back on the team today. He was suspended for the first four games. With him on the pitch, Rostov are a much more confident, and more dangerous opponent. Mordovia are a good team this year, but I think Rostov are the favorite for the win in this game. The odds for their win should be 1.90-2.00. But, given their recent bad results, I'll go for the safer option that the game won't be a draw. Details

    I think Eibar are the main candidate for relegation this year, and the courage and fierceness they've been displaying so far won't be enough for them to stay in the league.
    They are meeting the greatest club in their region in their first ever Primera game. Real have been doing well the last few seasons, and what could help in this game is the fact their season has already started since they European matches. Not all of them were good, but they managed to win all three. They lost a few key players this summer, but the rest of the team didn't change.
    I've been following the Spanish league for years now, but I have to admit that I'm not familiar with most players at Eibar. Interestingly, half of them have started their carriers at Real Sociedad, but didn't manage to prove themselves there.
    The first round is an enigma, but I don't understand why the odds are set so high at Real. The difference in quality between these two teams is huge, and I expect the home team to win easily. The stakes will be a bit lower since it's a first round game. Details

    Since there are always a lot of things still unknown in the first round games, I don't often choose to bet on them. But, I believe PAOK are way overrated in this match. They made many changes to the team this summer, especially with regards to midfield, which has been completely altered, and more importantly weakened. They did a game in Kisinjev against Zimbru few days back, and lost it 1-0. One game isn't the best indicator of what to expect from a team, but the things we do know are more than enough to create judgement. PAOK have the second leg on Thursday, which is why I don't expect them to do their best against Kalloni, who are better this season. To sum up, PAOK are not well organized, weakened, and in between two European games. On top of that, they will not have any fan support today, and the bet that Kalloni won't be defeated badly today seems like a good choice. They lost to PAOK 2-1 last year away, and I believe they can do the same today. Details

    Löwen never had it easy against Magdeburg, and this time they are starting a new season with three new players in the outer line and a new coach trying to put together a new (5-1) defense system. Captain Gensheimer says they're not as tuned up as they were this time last year, and they beat Magdeburg 29-28 in the preparation period. Last year when they were demolishing everyone it ended +6 here with an 18-1 series for Löwen thats probably never going to happen again. In Magdeburg the score was 31-31, with a goal for Löwen in the final second. Magdeburg are no longer struggling with injuries as they did last season, they have a good team and will certainly be contenders for tickets to European competitions. I expect them to put up a quality performance, and by no means will a home win of 6 or more happen here... Details

    We must congratulate Sunderland for the great performances at the end of last season which allowed them to avoid relegation, but they might get into that situation again. History repeats to those who don't learn from it, and Sunderland management did not reinforce the team after some of their players left this summer.
    Their biggest gain is the return of recovered forward Fletcher, as seen in the 2-2 draw against West Bromwich in first round, but against strong teams and title contenders, Sunderland will still play full defense with a few counterattacks, as they are a very limited team, realistically speaking.
    As Manchester are arriving for an away match after the fumble last week, we'll follow the old rule of betting on the favorite in the next match after they lose, as Manchester can hardly lose against two weak teams in a row.
    Although Van Gaal claims he "needs more time", and is plagued by absences of midfielders, Manchester United cannot afford another fumble, and will pressure the home team from the start. Van Persie and Valencia are returning, enough to trouble much stronger defenses than the one led by two veterans like Brown and O'Shea, who once played for Manchester,
    I see this as a one way street, with everything depending on ManUnited, and if their defense holds and manages not to ruin what offense achieves, it could even be a decisive win. Manchester won seven of the the last eight away league matches against Sunderland, and played 0-0 once. Details

    A few days ago these teams played in Vršac, and we had an exactly 10 points lower margin. The game ended at 163, with the Serbian team unable do put up any defense in the first 20 minutes, when they allowed the opponent to score 45 points. We should point out here that the Serbian selector Đorđević played without Kalinić and Štimac, two of his perhaps best defenders on the team. I expect them on the team today, and Serbia much better at defending for it. They played 9 matches during preparations, and only the one against New Zealand went over 160. New Zealand on the other hand played 160 with Greeks and 164 with Lithuania. The key for them is that they have very few options once they're covered up close and not allowed easy shots, as their inner lineup is rather sparse and problematic. I believe Serbia will do better on defense today, which should make this an under 160 match. Details

    Surprises are always possible in season openers - just take a look at what happened to Kiel and Fuchse yesterday. Flensburg struggled as well, which is exactly what I think will happen to Hamburg today. This is not the team HSV were the previous season. They are the team that are yet to prove themselves, led by a new coach, who will definitely need time to get a hang of leading his new club. Gummersbach didn't change much compared to last season - three new back players (Kühn, Jonsson, and Persson) joined. Given their quality, we expect Gummersbach to do much better this season. They can stay very close to this Hamburg today, and that is exactly what I expect till the very end of the game. HSV's Hens, Mahe, and Pfahl are very good back players, but the problems at HSV will transpire as they leave the court, especially since they have no other leftie besides Pfahl for the right back position. The home team know what to expect from Pfahl and Mahe since the two of them used to play at Gummerbach. Hamburg can't count on first choice wings Lindberg and Schmidt today. Defense might be an issue as well since Dominikovic and Hansen have to take over as center defenders, which is not what they did last season at all. Details

    Spain's scoring issues are becoming more and more pronounced as the tournament draws on. Except when they demolished Macedonia in the second round, Spain did not manage to score more than 27, which was against Denmark, against any other team. The odds and margins for this match were set based on their first match, but I don't think they're realistic. Denmark started the match badly the last time they played, losing 17-11 at halftime but turning that into 22-20 with 20 minutes of impressive handball. Spain managed to win somehow in the end, but today they will not such an easy time at the start of the match. Denmark have great defense that is able to completely shut down Spain (10 goals in the second half of the first match), quick players who can stop Spanish transition, much better shooters, and at least equally good goalies. Mendez is not at the level he performed in the first matches, while Nielsen demonstrate he can destroy the opponents practically by himself. The Spanish must have found it hard to cope with losing against France, as they based their philosophy on the collective, and the drive from the series of victories, but one could already tell against Switzerland that they were getting worse as the tournament drew on. Denmark on the other hand are the only ones who managed to parry Hungary somewhat, and the Hungarian selector clearly pointed out Henriksen's team as their only threat in the hunt for gold. I see the Danes closer to the medal here, and the bet even covers a loss in a close finish. Details
