    When the season starts, bookmakers tend to underestimate some, and overestimate other clubs. In this case, Twente are extremely favored, and for no reason. Twente barely managed to defeat Cambuur in the first round, by scoring the goal in the end of the match. Den Haag were defeated against Feyenoord by conceding a goal in the 90th minute, after they played more than half of the match with 10 players. If there was any luck, Den Haag should have lead by at least two before that sending-off, but the goal posts didn't allow it.
    Those two matches mean that Twente won't be as strong as the last season, they lost two key offense players, Tadic and Promes, and Gutierrez is injured. The defenders Bengtsson and Bjelland will also be out today. That's not the same Twente that didn't lose at home last season. They also got a new coach, and the players just need to learn what he wants. Den Haag showed that the rise from the second part of the season was no accident. The club was taken by a new Chinese owner, and their ambitions definitely grew.
    Coach Fraser is still looking for reinforcements, but the first duel against Feyenoor is definitely encouraging. Their game was calm and organized, and the only thing they missed was some luck in realization. The club from the capital didn't fare well in Enschede for years, but they ended that tradition the last time, giving more faith that the guests aren't coming to get beaten like the odds suggest, but they have the knowledge and the power to match the weakened home team.
    This is why we choose the option that Den Haag won't lose by over two goals difference, if they lose at all. Details

    The Turks have a much better background - the previous generation won anything that could be won, and this one have the winning material, but aren't invincible. They only have the EC bronze as cadets, didn't get in the top eight in the WC, and lost to Serbia's juniors before this EC. Slovenia, on the other hand, definitely have a generation that belongs in the top eight European teams, they were 6th on EC 2013, where they lost to Poland after five sets, after they were leading 2-1. That same summer, SLovenia on the unofficial European championship in Utrecht (EYOF), where the eight best European cadet teams played. There, Slovenia defeated Turkey 3-1 (25-19, 21-25, 25-23, 25-21). Both teams had almost identical rosters as now, Slovenian best players were the opposite Markovic, receivers Scuka and Sobocan, and the best Turkish players were the opposite Aroguz, the receiver Topaloglu, the middles Baladin and Zent, the main players for this EC. Slovenia were convincing in the preparation period, had good preparations, and two players from this team, Eva Mori and Scuka, played for the Slovenian A team in the European League. All players played main roles in their clubs during the season. This will be a much more evened out match than the odds suggest, Slovenia's win has a great value, and where the bigger stakes are available, you can bet on the covered handicap on points or sets.     Regardless of this being a game for 3rd place, both Serbia and Spain don't want to leave this tournament without a medal, and will do anything to get the bronze one. Theses are both teams that displayed very good defense here on the WC, with Serbia's opponents averaging 62, and Spain's 58.2. Of course, one must deduct the Emirates match there, but that match also significantly boosted their offense numbers. Spain remained at very low scores against all serious teams. Against Australia yesterday we saw 134, vs France was at 138, Argentina 121, Italy 114, Porto Rico 132… Serbia vs Canada played at 135, vs Argentina 117. Against USA they went significantly above this margin, but those were still Americans. Don't forget both these teams played in the final of the cadets EC last year, with almost the same rosters. The Spanish won in extra time after regular time ended 55-55. Details

    Blackpool fired the entire team during the summer because of the financial problems, and coach Riga is still assembling a team for the new season. They're weak, haven't practiced playing together, but resisted nicely to Forest in the first round, and on Tuesday, the fatigue cost them in the league-cup. Today, they're playing at home for the first time, and their basic goal is a positive result that would encourage players and fix the team mood. They'll hardly risk anything, they'd probably happily accept zero. Blackburn started the competition without the offensive reinforcement Brown (injured in pre-season), and it showed in the first two matches (1-1, 1-0). Brown hasn't recovered yet, nor did the back Spurr. Three out of four matches these two teams played were under, even when the offenses were much better than the ones now. Details

    The New Zealanders had stomach flu issues, and even though the captain Vukona tries to convince us that everything's all right, anyone who had a stomach flu knows that you feel dead for a few days after. So I don't see how the New Zealanders could match the Slovenians coming with their strongest team today (except for the injured E. Lorbek), and like that, they're stronger than New Zealand. Zdovc is a very good coach, defense oriented, and won't allow his team to relax. The fight for the places on WC is still going on in Slovenia. New Zealand had success in the friendly matches so far, but those were third-grade teams, Slovenia are on Adecco cup already (their B team was in China on Stankovic cup), and they showed they can defeat teams stronger than them. They defeated Ukraine by 13, Georgia by 27 and Canada by 12 points difference. Details

    Ural and points in home games are rarely mentioned in the same sentence. They are a team that just like to play away, and almost seem lost at home. Last year they won only 13 of the possible 34 points at home, and the trend seems to be continuing this year as well, as they won only one point in the first three rounds (all home games). They're also struggling with absences, especially on offense. Today their point offense man should once again be midfielder Erokhin. Torpedo could easily get all three points in this match with some patience, and I cannot agree with Ural being such overwhelming favorites here. They are favorites due to home ground, by all means, but anything under 2.00 is just too much, and I'll definitely support the away team here, but with insurance. Details

    The Italians and the Argentinians faced each other twice in the WC in Italy preparations. The home team won the first match 62-57, the second was won by the Argentinians 60-55. Both teams left a good impression in the defense on the WC. The Italians concede 57.7 points per match, and the Argentinians 59.7, and they score a bit less than 69. The matches Italy played end with 134 total per match, including those against Japan, China, and UAE who play offensively, or don't really play defense. Against teams with game style similar to Argentina's, Italy played 51-58 against Porto Rico, and they defeated Spain 64-50. The Argentinians defeated Greece 65-54 yesterday, and lost to Spain 57-64, and Serbia 57-60. Neither of the teams' back shot looks convincing, and we can expect defenses to dominate today. Details

    Hats off to Ymer for defeating Ramirez-Hidalgo, but I have a feeling the Spaniard doesn't have one day left in Cordenons more than necessary. The rain, breaks, matches played with two days delay. The Swede had to use that because as weird as it sounds, it meant more to him. Ramirez-Hidalgo isn't playing for the ranking, he's 36 years old and that's the least of his priorities. He's playing for the love of tennis, he often said that, and there's no pleasure in playing during the biggest storm ever. So, Ymer's convincing win boosted his self-confidence, and Lorenzi is a better player than the Swede. Actually, the Italian did everything in his career in matches like these. Matches where he's the favorite. Lorenzi is a much better player, a Top 100 player who rarely makes mistakes against players ranked lower. The odds are hyped up because of Ymer's win against Ramirez-Hidalgo, but the first round is a more realistic depiction of his quality, as is the rest of the season, and I believe Lorenzi will ground him today, so he won't fly too high.     Ivanovic talked about consistency a few times this season, having to work on it. She really lacks it occasionally, as seen in oscillations on court. You could see it against Svitolina on Indian Wells this season, where Ivanovic struggled to win the tough match. She was a set behind, a break behind in the second set, was saving Svitolina's match serve twice in the third. Svitolina looks like an intruder in the Cincinnati final matches, she's the only one who's not a seed, the only one out of Top 15, but the fact we're seeing her here today means something. Her style doesn't suit the hitters, she eliminated Kvitova in two sets here. Ivanovic has the strength, she had it against Svitolina in Indian Wells, but she can't control it in duels like these, so a big number of errors happen. Svitolina knows how to punish that, any long rally went on her side on Indian Wells. Ivanovic is taking painkillers here. She's not fully ready, her problems are still here and nobody can guarantee, her included, that she'll be able to do her best today. This is where I see Svitolina's chance today, she loves playing against aggressive players more than against consistent players. She'll let Ivanovic take initiative for sure, but consistency will definitely break her rhythm. Svitolina showed a big progress this season, too, proved her quality and she can play a match with no pressure today, and I'm sure she'll complicate it. Just like she did on Indian Wells. Details
